King Arthur Flour: Bench Knife + Flour Giveaway

Continuing with the whole grain baking fun, this week we’re giving away this awesome bench knife from King Arthur Flour, plus a coupon for a free 5 lb. bag of flour.  A bench knife is a multi-functional kitchen tool but I have found it especially useful for making pastries.

To enter, leave a comment on THIS POST and tell me if you’ve ever made pastry at home before and if so, what you like to make.  Or, what would you like to learn to make?

    One of the first things I made on my own in a cooking class in high school were apple and cheese danishes. I do enjoy baking with puff pastry on occasion, but I am one of those ppl who buys store bought. Not that that couldn’t change, of course!

    At Christmas time I make a pastry dough to make mini raspberry tarts. I fill the tarts with vanilla custard, raspberry jam and fresh raspberries, so delicious with the tart crust!!

    Pies and tarts and such I have made. What I’d really like to find a recipe for is something my father calls a haystack. His father, who was a baker, made them and I would love to recreate them for my dad. Unfortunately I have searched the internet many times and never found anything – and no – it’s not the dessert with chow mein noodles – it’s a pastry with some sort of cream on top that resembles a haystack.
