earth day 2013 – flip and tumble produce bags

Reuseable grocery bags are pretty awesome, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense to use them and then fill them up with a bunch of plastic produce bags.  I love these mesh produce bags from Flip and Tumble.  They fit easily in my purse so I can grab one whenever I need it.  (Ben likes to tease me when I whip one out at the store, but I think he’s just jealous.)

To enter, leave a comment on THIS POST and tell me on average about how many of those plastic produce bags you think you use each week.

The Rules: One entry per person, U.S. residents only.  Commenting will open Monday, April 22 at 4:30 am EST and close on Wednesday, April 24 at 10:00 pm EST.  Entries that do not follow the entry requirements will not be considered.  Five winners will be selected at random and contacted via email later this week.  Good luck!

Full disclosure: This giveaway is sponsored by Annie’s Eats.

  • L. Murphy

Umm…guilty. Several each week. Another great product idea from you. Thanks!

  • Lauren Clausen

I probably use 4 or so produce bags a week and would love to eliminate them!

  • I use reusable grocery bags as often as possible and these produce bags would be great!! When we do get the plastics bags, which would only average 2 bags a week, they are ALWAYS used again around the house for something else. They are great when traveling for packing/protecting shoes!!I

  • michelle

I shop a lot at Trader Joe’s and from our veggie CSA, so I wouldn’t say too many. But a few for sure and I agree that it always seems like a waste!! Would love to eliminate them :)

  • Julie Morton

hmm probably 3-5. We try to avoid putting produce in those bags as much as possible, but some things need protecting! These would be a great addition to our reusable grocery and snack bags!

  • Kat

0! I made produce bags out of old t-shirts so I never have to use those plastic things again! Would love to have some of these to supplement my collection as the shirts start to wear out!

  • Having almost a family of 4(1 due at the end of May) we use 4-5 each week depending on the meals that are planned. Would love to have some of these bags to cut down waste!

  • Probably around 4 produce bags a week.

  • Aimee Conrad-Hill

This product is great. I tried to cut back on the plastic bags by putting my loose produce into the cart. However, they tend to get bruised or scattered.

  • Maybe 1? I usually just try to leave produce loose if I can, to avoid the bag, but these would be a better solution!

  • I love this idea! I probably use 6-7 plastic produce bags per week.

  • Gillian West

I don’t use any, but not because I have reusable produce bags. Yup, I’m the lady who hands the cashier at Trader Joe’s my five loose apples because I really don’t want to use plastic bags for my produce!

  • Randee Donovan

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve never even thought about how many of those produce bags I use and toss out each week. Ugh. Maybe 10? More probably! This is such a wonderful idea!

  • Des

I never thought about how many we use each week until you asked. Wow, I think we use probably about 5 each week. I didn’t know that they made reuseable produce bags! Will definitely have to get some of these.

  • Sara

    Probably at least 4…Too many!

  • Elizabeth

I use reuse able grocery bags each week and would love to add these produce bags to my collection! I use at least 5 produce bags each week. We are definitely working to cut down on waste in our house. Thanks for the reminder! :)

  • Elizabeth

I use reuse able grocery bags each week and would love to add these to my collection. I use at least 5 produce bags per week, and these are perfect for my house, where we are trying to reduce waste overall!

  • Sherri

We probably average about 3 or 4 of the plastic produce bags per shopping trip, and sometimes there are two shopping trips in a week.

  • We buy a lot of produce, so I probably use about 6-8 plastic produce bags each week. We try to re-use them somehow at home, but they still wind up as waste eventually. I would love to put these bags into part of my grocery shopping routine!

  • Jessie M.

I probably use 3 a week. Would prefer it to be 0.

  • What a great idea – I’ve never thought of this. I usually just skip the plastic bags altogether and put the stuff straight in my cart. This would be so much better!

I think currently I am using about 2-3 produce bags a week……I love shopping at Sams, I feel like more veggies in less packaging!

  • Kristen

I honestly use about 15 per week! Yikes, never realized!

  • Courtney Bilos

Plastic bags in general are in excess around here. We always take them to the recycling center though. The produce bags themselves…probably 1-2 a week. Soon my little girl will be starting solids though…I’d imagine they would greatly increase then.

  • I use two or three a week but I only use them if I am purchasing multiple small items. It seems that so much produce is now coming prepackaged instead of loose, which is not good from an environment standpoint.

  • I probably only use 1 a week but would love some reusable ones.

  • Stephanie Coleman

I was just thinking I need something like this as I was putting one head of garlic into a GIANT produce bag yesterday! I use way too many and would love to cut down!

  • Kristin

About 5 or so, though we reuse any without holes for our garbage cans.

  • Hilary

Nice! I use 3-4 per week, slthough sometimes I just let my veggies roll free!

  • Laura Tollini

At least 3-4! What a great idea!

  • Hi Annie,
On average, I use 4-5 plastic produce bags each week. My family and I are beginning to eat more organic produce. We are starting to shop at local farmer’s markets for our produce. With this new endevour, we want to utilize the least amount of plastic bag use too. Thank you for giving us this opportunity!

    Catherine Cochran

  • Claire Cannon

Gosh, I probably use 3 or 4 a week. Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Probably 3 or 4. I need some of these, for sure!

  • Julie R.

These look great!! I have those plastic produce bags, and I use 5-7 at the grocery.

  • Kristina G.

I get groceries every other week and come home with 6 – 8 of those bags every time. I can’t even guess at how many times I’ve thought that I needed reusable produce bags but have just never done anything about it. Today, Earth Day, would be a great day to do something about it!

  • Shauna Lewallen

Right now, I use zero. I bought some mesh produce bags on Etsy a few years ago but they are just about done for. They won’t stay shut and my produce ends up rolling around my cart. These look so nice and would be a fantastic replacement to my torn up bags.

  • Anne

I love this idea! We eat a lot of produce so while I try not to put all my produce in plastic bags, we still go through at least 5 a week!

  • Amanda

    I probably use 5 a week…these would be great!

  • I try to cut down on my produce bag usage by bagging only the items that I’ll eat the skins, but I know I still use 3-5 per week. I’d love to cut that down with these.

  • Kaitlyn

I try to avoid them when possible and just take produce loose, but I still probably use 4 per week on average. I would definitely like to try reuseable produce bags!

  • Emily

    I usually use 1-2.

  • Ruchita G.

I probably use 5-7 product bags a week.

  • Jennifer Hamilton

I actually bought a set of these last year after I didn’t win your giveaway, and just love them. Would love another set for when my set are being washed!! Sometimes I forget them and still have to grab the plastic ones, but 75% of the time I have my own! Make your produce refrigerator drawer look cleaner too!

  • Michelle

I use at least 6 per week. These would be great!

  • Andrea Smith

Probably about five. We have some mesh produce bags we bought a couple years back so that helps a bit!

  • Catherine

I hate to admit it, but I must use more than a dozen a week. I use them at home to wrap up some sort of garbage, but I still feel guilty:)

  • I probably use a few, like 3, each week. This is a great idea.

  • Gina

My husband and I have been eating much healthier the past several months which has included buying a lot more fruits and veggies on a weekly basis which has unfortunately bumped up our produce bag use to 3-5 per week. These bags are such a great idea, they would be handy each week!

  • Marissa

    I probably use about 5 or so a week….. :/

  • evabakes

About one or two a week. Once our CSA starts back up, that number goes down. I would love to win these so my plastic produce bag usage goes down to zero!

  • Demitria Raynor

    Probably around 3-4

  • I only use a few – I often just put produce just straight up in my cart when it’s possible, since I’ll just be washing them when I get home anyway! These will be awesome so I’m not ever tempted to use the plastic. :)

  • Casey Dunne

Ugh, probably at least 7. I’d love to make it zero.

  • I think I probably use 5 each week…… If not more. :S We eat a lot of fruits and veggies!

  • Amanda Beaty

I find them super annoying so I try to avoid them if at all possible; however, I still use at least 2 or 3 a week. This would be a great alternative.

  • Jean

These bags are a great idea! I only use the plastic produce bags for certain items now, mainly wet, leafy vegetables and just let me other produce roll around. :-) Even so, I probably still use ~5 bags per week. :-(

  • Angie

Oh man, sadly I use about 5 a week. I used to use more, but now I let lemons, onions and garlic roam free!

  • Kim

I’m so glad to learn about this product! In the winter (with no CSA and farmers market),, we probably use 10-12 plastic baggies weekly :( Maybe 2 in the spring and summer.

  • I typically try to bring my reusable bags to the farmer’s market, but occasionally I use 1-2 plastic bags.

  • Maegan

I love the idea of these bags! And you’re right- whats the point of using reusable grocery bags if you are going to use the plastic produce bags. Unfortunately I probably use close to 10 of these/week since the majority of my groceries are fresh fruits and veggies!

  • I’d say at least half a dozen. I try to skip them, but some things just need a bag.

  • Sara Hoyle

I probably use 2-3 bags at least. I’ve never heard of these reusable ones. What a cool idea!

I hadn’t used them in years…until last week. I started using them to put kale in. The good is that we’ve incorporated kale into our diet…the bad news…that darn bag. Love this giveaway!

  • Sarah Furge

I use far too many bags each week – probably 8-10. Good that we’re getting our produce though! I’ve never seen these bags before – great idea!

  • Natalie Kate Webster

I think I typically use 4-5 of these a week.

  • Amanda

I’ve been wanting some of these! We probbly use around 5 bags a week.

  • Cambria Washington

oh my! I must go through 5+ a week. We try to put them into recycling, but it would be better no to use them at all.

  • Lizzi Stremke

This is such a brilliant idea! I swear we probably go through 5-6 of those plastic bags a week.

  • mdidonna

My husband actually got me a few cloth produce bags from Whole Foods for our second anniversary (the cotton anniversary!). I really love them, but oftentimes I don’t bring them to the store because they’re either in the wash or they’re still in the fridge with the produce. I’d love to have a few more to add to our rotation!

  • Kat

I just bought a pack of these this weekend. I think we use 8-10 a week, and it was really bugging me till I saw this alternative. The pack I bought only has four, though, so more please! Thanks, Annie.

  • Probably 4-5 on average.

  • Danielle Leibovich

My family is small – only two – so we maybe have two of those plastic bags a week. I hadn’t even heard about resusable produce bags until visitng a friend in Madison right before Easter!

  • Ashley

    Around 5-10.

  • Michelle B.

I love these! I always bring reusable bags for my groceries, but don’t like using the plastic produce bags. Even though I only shop for myself, I think I would use all of them on my weekly grocery trips!

  • mollyjam

I probably use 5 a week…at least we repurpose them as garbage bags for bathrooms and other smaller cans, but our collection is growing.

  • Sarah W

    6 or so

  • Diana

I try to buy produce at the farmer’s market in season and avoid those plastic bags completely but when I can’t and I have to buy at the grocery store, it’s easily 4-5 plastic bags per week.

  • Probably 5-8 a week.

  • What an awesome find! I probably use five or six produce bags each time I grocery shop, twice a month. (I’m shopping and cooking for one.) Thanks for the chance to win.

  • Carolyn

For sure at least 8 of them. I do not even use the plastic bags at the grocery stores, I just take them without one! It would be nice for my tomatoes though!

  • Joy Burrell

Probably 4-5 on average per week.

  • Beth Ebenstein Mulch

On average probably about 5 or 6. They are so wasteful but I hadn’t found a better solution.

  • Kaitlin

I use about 5 a week. I try to not use them if I can help it (If I’m buying 1 or 2 peppers, I’ll just not use a bag) but a lot of things need them. I LOVE the flip and tumble reusable bags and have wanted these for a while!

  • Probably 3-4, depending on the week. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

  • About 4

  • Samantha Yuen

I would say about 6-8. Ugh, that’s so many now that I think about it!

  • Leyna Smith

8-10 I’d say. Would love to get some reusable ones!

  • Liz N.

4-5 would be my guess. I would love to win these!

  • Ashley

Gosh, probably 10 or more, which is terrible!

  • Jenna Ross

Depressingly, probably about 10. We eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, and the local fruit vendor insists I put each item into its own bag after he weighs it.

  • L B

I try to combine my produce to lower the amount of bags I have to use but it’s still probably 3 bags a week.

  • Ami Keltner

    Probably 4-5 per week.

  • AD

I use about 4 of those with every grocery trip

  • Catherine MacDonald

At an average trip to the grocery store, I probably use at least ten produce bags.

  • Anne Marie Moser

An embarrassing amount, especially when I use reusable grocery bags, but have the plastic produce bags. For some reason, these are harder for me to remember. But having more would help!

  • mom244evermom

Ugh! I probably use 10-12. I’ll obviously have to rethink that!

  • Jordan Ray

Oh no!!!!!! Why have I never thought of these? What a genius idea! I use probably 7-10 every trip to the store. And I pride myself on using eco friendly bags to carry everything out of the store! Thank you so much for this idea! I would love to win these, but if not I will put some pennies aside to buy these! :)

  • Courtney Vencel

    I probably go through 8-10

  • Angela

I don’t use any. I can’t justify using them and then putting plastic in my reusable bags. These would be great to keep my produce together!

  • Briar

1-2 if I can’t make it to the farmer’s market

  • Jill Lodde

    probably at least 5.

  • Jessica

Probably 8…I only use if I am buying multiples of produce items.

  • Only about 3–I have a set of these, but another would be so helpful!

  • I used to have a whole set of these, but somewhere along the way I think I’ve lost all but 1. I’ve been meaning to stock up again!

  • Ann Harrer

Even 1 is too many! And I use too many! I probably use 4-5. I try and find reuses for them, like packing crackers in my daughters lunch, or as wastebasket liners.

  • Amanda

I go to the grocery store like 3-4 times a week (it’s right next door to my apt complex so I am soooo lazy about planning meals…) and I probably get 3-4 kinds of baggable produce each time, so 9-16 bags/week! :/

  • Annie Song

Hmm, probably 2 a week. I don’t need a produce bag for large vegetables but I always need one for the cilantro! I will definitely grab some of these even if I don’t win. Thanks for the reminder, Annie!

  • I have been looking forward to having some produce bags to reduce my plastic footprint! It kills me every time I spin another bag off the roll in the grocery. We probably use close to 10 b/c we do our juicing!

  • Natasha Mortazavi

I grocery shop once a week, and I buy lots of produce. I reuse the produce bags when I can, but I still probably throw away 5-6 per week. Not good!

  • parktl

We probably use about 5-6 of those plastic bags at the grocery store.

  • Danielle Rizzini

I could use these! I probably use about 4-5 a week. This would be nice especially in NYC, where stores are a little plastic-bag crazy.

  • fuerniss

Less than one a week. Most produce is bought at the Farmer’s market and then frozen or canned. Some produce is bought at Aldi throughout the year, but I never use a bag there. So overall I’d guess maybe 25 a year? Wild guess!

  • I use about 2 a week.

  • Yasmine Arastu Jones

I probably use 2 a week and it’s usually for the same thing—cilantro! I try not to use one for other produce…but I can definitely use these bags!

  • Kirsten Coenen

We probably use 3-5 each week. But this is exactly what I’ve been looking for!

  • disqus_rRuZENWIp9

    I think around 3-4.

  • Oh gosh… I would say 3-5. Yikes! I always think about not using them, but I also don’t want all of my produce rolling all over the place.

  • Gosh, I use so many! Maybe 6 to 8 per week!

  • Julie Pollock

I try not to use a lot of them… I keep my peppers, cucumbers and avocados out of the bags. But herbs, lettuce, spinach and others that are wet sort of necessitate them. So maybe 1-2 each time I’m at the store. I’d love reusable ones though!

  • Angela

    I think maybe six. Yikes.

  • Heidi C

Probably eight or ten bags, I buy a lot of produce!

  • Kelli

    3-4 per week :(

  • I already use cloth grocery bags and I do try my best to be conservative about my use of those plastic produce bags. I try to keep it to one for all my produce and one for all my raw meat. But that’s still 2 per week. :-(

  • Gaby Malakates

Definitely at least one but more like 3 a week.

  • Lori Briscoe

probably 3 or so. how bad!!!! I never realized that!

  • probably 2 or 3.. :o(

  • Anna Diemer

Yikes, I use a lot of them. I’d say 6-8 per week.

  • Samantha Saari

OMG, at least 5-6 each week – yikes.

  • Alice

I would guess an average of 10 per week. I’ve been thinking about buying these exact bags because of it…

  • Bianca Tang

    Definitely at least 5..

  • Rachael MakesCakes

I echo others–we probably use a good 6. I will leave some things out, like citrus and chile peppers, but there are other things I just can’t bear to leave out to get dirty–or to risk exposure to meat. I’ve been wanting some bags like these for a while.

  • Rahaf

    Oh God probably 10-15!

  • brittany k

I’d say we use 5+ of these bags weekly! I didn’t even know such a thing as this exsisted. I LOVE it!!

  • Sara Olson

Way too many…like 6 at least. The shame!

  • Alyssa

I would guess I use about 3 per week. I try not to bag as much as I can, but some is always inevitable!

  • thumpertx

OMG…I use so many produce bags each week (at least 10-15) because I love my fruits and vegetables. These would be so great and would save a lot of the recycling I have to do with the plastic store bags. What a great idea!

  • At least 10. It’s crazy.

  • 3-4 bags per week.

  • Jennifer Hawes

We use a few each week, depending on our local produce. I always stick plastic bags in a holder until I have enough to recycle at our local grocery store. When warmer months come and it’s farmer’s market time, I have a new bag with pockets meant just for produce. I’ll never have to ask for a bag at the farmer’s market again!

  • Ashley Barlow

Probably 5-6… I have stopped even using them for most things- I hate the waste!

  • Mary Beth

    3ish. But still too many!

  • Rosie

3-5probably? I don’t know. Enough to drive me crazy.

  • Mikah

If I remember my re-usable grocery bags it’s about 3 for apples mostly. If I forget them it’s around 8.

  • easily 5-6 bags a week, or rather every two weeks when I do my stock up

  • Lindsey F

    Probably about 4 or 5 a week.

  • Joan Craig

Never thought of this before but probably at least 10-15!

  • bsivasai

each week.. probably 5 or 6

  • Megan

Probably close to 10, I didn’t even realize they made these!

  • Shae Tilson

not that many any more… we live in indy and get green bean delivery bins each week! but these would be fantastic to take to the upcoming farmer’s markets! can’t wait!

  • blueangel729

5-6 a week. These would be great!

  • I’m sure I could use a min. of 5 each week, probably more!

  • I shop mostly perimeter, so a lot. I’d say at least 10.

  • Julie G

4 bags – have to clean those litter boxes!

  • None, as my grocers use paper bags. Now those I use maybe 5 a week, as I reuse them & only throw them away (recycle) when they have holes in them!

  • Lana Kuziez

    Probably 4-5

  • Maria

Not too many. I love these bags and keep a set in my purse. A set for the diaper bag, though, would be awesome and so helpful!

  • We use a lot – we deliver for Meals on Wheels on Tuesdays – so we reuse the bags we get that day to put stuff in them for the meals on Wheels people – but I would say our family uses 4-5 a week!

  • About 5 per week and it always makes me think how counterproductive that is when I’m already using reusable grocery bags!

  • Kelsey Keag

Oy. We’ve been trying to cut down, but I bet I use 6-7 each week.

  • I try to not put them in bags when I think about it, maybe 2 a week?

  • Suzannah

3 or 4? I try to combine – things like cilantro or parsley get their own, but then I’ll throw limes and lemons in together, other veggies in one together, and onions in their own.

  • Olivia

I use about 5 bags per week!

  • Charone Peterson

    5 a week

  • Natalie Fieleke

Probably 4-5 per week? I tend to buy produce in bulk so it will last us a while.

  • Nicola Massie

i try to keep it from 2-3. i weigh my produce individually and then throw it all in as few bags as possible to try keep from wasting. fortunately my grocery store allows this. these bags would be great!

  • Liz

One of the long-term plans for our new home is to look into adding geo-thermal heating/cooling to it. Short-term we’re having energy efficient windows installed.

  • Amy Stratton

Probably about 3 or 4 per week.

  • Christine

Eek. We probably use 6 or 7.

  • Audrey

I have really cut back lately-I’d say 2-3/week

  • KatieK

I’m sad to sad at least 3 or 4 each week :-(

  • Vivian Cook

    Probably 8-10.

  • Melissa

    Maybe 6…

  • Melissa

I try so hard not to use any, but it’s inevitable…especially when I buy herbs and things that hold moisture. Probably 1-2 per week.

  • Mel

Probably 3 per week. I try my best to avoid using them!

  • Ally Gutierrez

    Probably around 4-5 :(

  • Jamie Martin

7 maybe? I try to just put produce right in the cart, but many times its just easier to group like items together.

  • Julie {BananasForBourbon}

Ugh, unhappy to report probably 5-8 a week. I do reuse them though.

  • Urvi Patel

    Probably 1-2 bags/week.

  • Elisa E

I probably use around seven. Didn’t know this bags existed before…might have to buy some if I don’t win them!

  • Diana

    I use 3-4 a week.

  • 3-4 a week…usually.

  • Morgan Michelle Robertson

Eeeeek at least 5-10 I would say

  • This is a great idea! We probably use at least 5 a week!

  • Marti Taylor

October through May at least 6 a week. May through October 0 (only because the Farmer’s Market is open and we use brown paper lunch bags).

  • Julie @ Table for Two

Eek, I’d hate to admit it, I probably use about close to 7-10!! :(

  • Catherine

I use them every time we go shopping – which is once a week. I really do want to cut down on all of that plastic, and these would be great.

  • Crystal

Oh man, probably close to 10 each week. I do try to reuse them for food storage though.

  • bonnie-n-clyde3

Hmm….maybe two a week. I use them in our bathroom trashcans and change them once a week or so.

  • Anne Blackwell

I probably use 4-5 of them each week.

  • Whitney Schubarth

i use far too many! yesterday alone I probably got 6-7 of them at the grocery store. ugh.

  • ehh I use about 3-4… something I’m not proud of! I keep meaning to get some of these!

  • Danielle Sturgeon

4-5 a week – and re-use them in the little garbages in the house bathrooms. At least we try to use them again!

  • Amanda Ferraioli

    Sadly, about 5.

  • Brooke Keenan

    ugh…probably 5-6

  • Kayla W

Sadly probably at least 4 every week.

  • Katie Twist

1-3, but we do reuse them

  • Heather W

I use at least 5-6 a week and sometime more depending on how much produce I’m buying! I hate it and have been meaning to buy reusable produce bags for ages so this would be perfect.

  • I bought a set of these and love them, but would love an extra set to keep in my husband’s car. Haven’t been using many plastics recently….usually 0!

  • Kate Cooper

    At least 6 to 8.

  • Karen

During the winter months…sadly too many! At least my store recycles them. Once the farmers market has fresh produce my plastic bag use drops to nil!

  • rita

I probably use 3-4 / month, but I do cram as much into those bags as I can (sweet potatoes in with the lemons!).

  • Laura

Maybe about 4. I try to avoid taking them if I’m only buying a single item that has a peel of some sort (like onions) or things individual priced and don’t need to be weighed together (like avocados) These mesh bags sounds awesome though.

  • This is the greatest idea ever, I normally put the fruits/veggies in the cart by themselves without the bag!

  • Beth

Hmm… probably 3-4, on an average week. I know there are weeks when I use more!

  • Probably about 5 ish…

  • I would say about 5 :(

  • Sheri

About 4 or 5 every week…which means these bags would come in handy.

  • Beckles

    Probably about 5 every week.

  • Tammy Fisher

Maybe 3 or 4. I am cutting down for sure!

  • probably 3-6. this is a great idea!

  • 2-3 a week.

  • Jacqueline Strickland

About 10. We use them as garbage bags.

  • Natalie S

I probably use about 10 each week.

  • Annie

    Between 3-5 each week.

  • Holly Drainer

I probably use 4-5 produce bags a week. I would love to use these instead. What a great idea! Even if I don’t win a set, I am going to check these out for sure.

  • Bethanie Radillo

During an average week, I probably use 8-10 plastic bags.

  • I use 10-12 each week. These look awesome!

  • anne

I easily use three or four of those produce bags a week, occasionally more. Sometimes I reuse them to hold homemade bread.

  • Melissa

Those look awesome! I live a hour away from where I shop, so when I go, I stock up as much as possible. For produce alone, I would say at least 10!

  • Molly Leverenz

Ooh it varies a lot. I try to not use bags for produce of which I don’t eat the skins (onions, avocados) and just rest them on other items on my cart. But I still probably use at least 4-6 a week. This is something I want to change!

  • Kate O.

    We use about 5-7

  • Susan

    I use about 2-4 a week

  • Kelly S

I used to use probably 5/week. Now, I have started taking them back to the store to re-use, and filling them with multiple types of produce! It is still one of my downfalls and is probably the one thing I waste most! :/

  • Amanda

    Between 2-3 per week.

  • About 10 a week but we use them for doggy duty after.

  • Katy

i would love a way to cut down on my plastic produce bags, we probably use 7 or 8 a week.

  • I use about 5 a week.

  • Christine Nguyen

i use about 5 a week, then we use them as pooper scooper bags!

  • Probably about 5 or depending on the produce I am buying. These are a great idea!

  • laura ruesch

    5-10 a week :/

  • Jen P

I usually don’t use them at all, but this would be an even better alternative!

  • erika

I think about 5-6. Would love some bags to make that number 0!!

  • Megan Bradley

3-6 these are such a great idea!

  • Sarah

I probably use 20 or so. We use them as garbage bags, lunch bags, and to clean up after the dog in the yard.

  • Kai

I would estimate 5-8 per week. Not very proud of that, but I do reuse all of them for some thing or another.

  • Victoria Tran

I probably use 1-4 bags a week. I think these bags are such a great idea! I always feel guilty when I go to the store and put my produce in plastic bags, but them place everything in a reusable bag when I check out.

  • Faith Still

Gosh I don’t know-maybe 4 or 5. I have three large flip and tumble grocery bags and love them. Have been using them for years.

  • Hope

Around 2 per week, just for myself. I would love to use these to cut that down!

  • Gina

Uhhh… too many to count:( I’ll try to be moreally earthy!

  • Lisa Jennings

I’d say 15+ especially if you count the bulk items from the bulk section at our local Winco Foods.

  • Bonnie

It varies, anywhere from just a couple to ten or more. I’ve been looking at these very bags on amazon forever and have never bought them.

  • Tricia H

i use at least 10 a week. gross, huh?

  • Tara Gillaspie

My family uses about 6 or 7 a week.

  • Makala Eddy

I probably only use about 2-3 plastic bags, as I buy all my fruit and veg from our local farmers market every week, so I bring my own reusable bags. Most of the produce that is packed up at the market gets put in paper bags (recyclable!), and any plastic bags that I receive from the market, I just save and bring back to the market to use the next week!

  • Christine

I’m happy to report that the number is zero. What grocery stores don’t bother to tell you is that your produce doesn’t actually need to be in a bag for them to ring up. No one really bats an eye when I dump loose jalapenos, bunches of cilantro or a couple of carrots on the conveyer. The checker just weighs the different items, rings them up and they go right back into my bag. These would be a nice change from that routine, though!

Oh, and I’ve also used a different method of picking up after my dog for years: instead of the inside-out bag standby, I just slip a sheet of those grocery store mailers underneath her as she stoops to do her business. If I don’t catch her in time I just use it to pick up after her. No bog deal and it’s saved untold waste for years!

  • Erin Acosta

I’d say about 5 on a regular week – but I’d love to win and make it 0!

  • Erin

I would guess an average of 2 per week.

  • Wow, what a great product. I have not seen them before but would definitely love using them. With four weight conscious daughters, we buy lots of fresh produce and these would be great!

  • Katie Newshel

If I am only buying a couple apples or another produce item I just put them right into my cart. I use 1-2 bags a week.

  • Meagan

Oh my gosh – – I use like, 10 because they double bag. Ugh. Though I use them as garbage bags so maybe that makes it better? Maybe…?? Thanks for the giveaway!

  • only a few, if i’m buying something that going to be peeled like bananas, grapefruits, etc. i just put the price sticker right on the product. I’d still love the bags, though.

  • Jacqueline

I’m hoping to start a garden and a compost pile in our new home this year! But I’m sure we will still need to buy some produce :-)!

  • Tamara

I would love these! I am great about using reusable grocery bags but you’re right – I totally fill them up with plastic produce bags!

  • Tamara

I probably use at least ten. My weekly trip to the farmers market usually ends in a cart full of produce!

  • Angie_R

We’ve been going to the farmers market lately, so not quite as many. But these would be perfect for the things we do have to grab from the grocery store.

  • Elizabeth Piasecki

Probably 3-4, depending on what I’m needing that week.

  • karnold133

I would say about 3 per week. There are only 2 of us, but I like to stock up all in one trip to the store!

  • veggiemom

    I would use 4 or 5 a week, I think.

  • Laurie

I try to go without whenever possible, but I probably use 3-5 everytime I go.

  • Rachel

Wow, these sound great! I probably use about 5 plastic bags a week. I have used reusable grocery bags for years, but those produce bags have bugged me for a while. Think of how much trash this would save if everyone used them!

  • Oh wow! I probably use at least 5 plastic produce bags a week.

  • Lisa van Langen

probably less than 5-most of my produce come from bountiful baskets, which I transport with reusable shopping bags, so we’re good!

  • Harriet B

    Would love to try these!!

  • Audra

Wow I have never heard of these, I probably use about 10 of those produce bags a week, and then I’m just like what you said I use my reusable grocery bags. I need to invest in some of these for sure!

  • Julie Page

Probably 4 or 5, but this would give me a great reason to not use any.

  • Lindsey

We try not to use the produce bags on things that don’t need them (like apples), but unfortunately we use about 5 a week for things like broccoli and carrots, etc

  • Kristie Fleming

It makes me sad to say that we use at least 10-12 per week. Such a waste, so these would be great to try!

  • Erika

About 6 or 7 every week! These would really come in handy on my Sunday trips to the farmers’ market. I hate having the random plastic bags lying around.

  • Alie McCorvey

I just recently heard about these reusable mesh bags…so unfortunately, I’ve been using the plastic ones every time I go to the grocery store….which is about once a week. So…about 3-4 per week.

  • We probably use a dozen a week, depending…

  • Since I just starting cooking with a lot more fresh produce, there have been half a dozen in my cart each week!

  • Denise

    Around 5-7 each week?

  • Ingrid Baird

2 or 3 but I’d love to win this and make it 0 :)

  • Adrianne LaFrance

maybe one plastic produce bag comes into our home a week — and it’s not even on the produce (I’m a loose veggies kind of girl, I guess)! gotta keep yucky meat packages from touching other things.

  • Rachel Kirby

Unfortunately we use way too many plastic bags. Probably about 10 per week ugh

  • Pamela Porter

I have never seen these before. I try to only use them when necessary so probably 4-5 (5 people in the house who all love produce).

  • I use at least 20+ bags, but I do reuse some of them and recycle the rest at my store’s plastic bag drop-off.

  • Probably 4-5. I’ll use the same bag for items that are sold individually, and not per pound. These are a great idea!

  • I probably use about 5-10 per week, although I try mightily to use my reuseable produce bags. I just always seem to forget them OR they get lost (thanks hubby!).

  • Leslie Farrar

I use way too many. Probably 10 a week.

  • Carol F.

3-4 plastic bags on an average shopping trip for me

  • We joined a fruit and vegetable coop this year so that cut down on our produce bags, but we still probably use at least 4-6 a week…I try to reuse them and recycle the rest, but it’s still too many!

  • Mel

I use about 10 bags every week :-(

  • I probably only use one or two, because I just let the fruit and veg fly around the cart while I’m shopping. I know I drive the check-out people crazy though. These bags would definitely help with the sanity…

  • Let’s not even discuss the plastic bag usage in our house since we decided to cook more with fresh veggies ….. :( I had never seen these produce bags before but what a great idea!

  • Katie

Maybe 2-3? But my bigger problem is the plastic baggies I use to bring them to work!

  • Regina

Varies greatly week to week, but probably 3-5 each week

  • I would use probably 15 for my produce. These look really awesome!

  • Regina

Varies week to week but probably 3-5 each week.

  • Marcie

I’m sure I use an ungodly amount of plastic produce bags as almost two and a half years ago I became a vegetarian as a way to do more for the environment (and my health, wallet, and conscience).

  • AmyT

I use probably 2-3 a week, but feel awful using them, and haven’t heard of these until now! Thanks for the idea.

  • Kari Milhofer

We use way too many – at least 15 a week. These look great.

  • N Ferneau

too many!!! this would help alot!

  • Ping Teresa Yeh

Each week, I probably use 2 plastic produce bags.

  • Julie

I use about 5 of those bags each week.

  • I think I probably go through at least 5 a week – if not more. These are a neat idea!

  • Carina

I probably go through 3 per week, but I do try to re-use them at least once before I toss them. I love the idea of re-usable ones though!.

  • About 2-3 per week.

  • Megan Bultsma

These are great! I would love to cut down on my plastic produce bag habit. I could probably use 4-5 per week.

  • Lynn Nelson

Anywhere from 6-12. They are great to re-use when you’re making homemade jerky, though! Put your pile of seasoned ground meat in them and roll flat before putting in your dehydrator — no sticking.

  • Corinne Long

    At least 5 or so…

  • Jessica

I end up going to the check out stand with a variety of lose produce. I am sure the clerks wish I would just bag it up but I can’t stand to just through them away when I get home. I probably use 1-2 a week.

  • Dency Daniel

    About 3 a week.

  • Kaitlin

I would use all 5 every week!

  • Theresa

I usually use 4-6, which is way too many! Luckily I do reuse them at home though.

  • Annie Brewer

Probably 1-2 a week, although I try to reuse them until they get gross. Something that’s meant to be reusable would definitely work better!

  • Jade Jones

we use between 5 & 10 every week. i always recycle them but it would be nice to not use them in the first place.

  • Angela Damron

I try to reuse the plastic ones as much as possible!

  • Heather Bologna

I probably use about 5-8 per week. When I’m done with them, I stash them in my car to use as trash bags.

  • Carly Dreibelbis

Probably about 2. I try to avoid them unless I am getting multiples of a loose item, or something that was just rinsed and is soaking wet. Most things can just go right on the belt!

  • Laura Wiedmeier

I probably use 8-10 so this is awesome.

  • On average, probably 6 or so. Until Farmer’s Market season. Then, I just use my own reusable grocery bags. These would be so nice to have. :)

  • disqus_javmXzKtDN

I use 2 or 3 plastic produce bags a week, but will be using a whole lot more as i plan to try more fruits and vegetables as part of a challenge

  • Lauren King

None! I use one big reusable bag for all of my produce. Would love some of these, though, to try to keep them separated/protected a bit better!

  • Nicole T

    I use about 4-5!

  • Alexandra Coppe

I try to use bags only for produce that really need it so I think between 2 and 5. I have been considering reusable produce bags for a while so thie give away would be PERFECT!!!

  • 6-8!

  • memehappy

1-2 bags. I put many items (that dont need to be weighed) as possible in 1 bag

  • SK

4-5 a week. However I reuse my bags for all sorts of things and the ones I don’t I just take them for recycling to the stores. Having reusable ones will be great.

  • Shawn and Rachel Phelps

I probably use about 6 a week. I do try to reuse them or recycle them, but would like to not have to bother with them at all. Have thought about buying some before, but always cringe at the prices when they seem like something simple I could probably make myself. Of course, life gets busy and I haven’t gotten around to making my own. Winning this giveaway would be great.

  • Leslie Cox

Goodness…just today I used 3 and that was a quick mid-week trip to the store. I probably use 6-8 a week.

  • Sandy Arenz

Probably two. I try to avoid them if I can.
