earth day 2012 – flip and tumble produce bags

Reuseable grocery bags are pretty awesome, but what’s the point in using them if you end up filling them with a bunch of plastic produce bags?  I love these mesh produce bags from Flip and Tumble.  They fit easily in my purse so I can grab one whenever I need it.  (Ben likes to tease me when I whip one out at the store, but I think he’s just jealous.)

To enter, leave a comment on THIS POST and tell me on average about how many of those plastic produce bags do you think you use each week.

The Rules: One entry per person, U.S. residents only.  Commenting will open Friday, April 20 at 4:45 am EST close on Sunday, April 22 at 10:00 pm EST.  Entries that do not follow the entry requirements will not be considered.  Four winners will be selected at random and contacted via email later this week.  Good luck!

Full disclosure: This giveaway is sponsored by Annie’s Eats.

  • Frenchie

I stopped using plastic bags and just started bringing loose produce to the register! It completely annoys the poor cashier, so it’d be nice to have these bags : )

  • Kristin Germanceri

Omg I cannot even begin to count. Way too many, I would love to have these in my atsenal and would use them every day!

  • Ella

I had no idea they even made such a thing – thank you for sharing!! I, too, have a love for DIYing it and my achilles heel at the grocery stores is fresh produce – fruits, veggies, you name it. But I always feel guilty for throwing it into a plastic bag. I would say on average I’ve using 10-15 bags per week – ouch, not exactly in line with my desire to be earth-friendly. Happy Earth Day to you & your family!

  • Jill D.

My family has been using the reuseable grocery bags for awhile now but I feel totally guilty when it comes to using the produce bags! I always try and go without or put several items in one bag. Then of course the clerk has to take them out at check out, but it cut back on how many I used overall. We probably use around 5 a week with my methods, but to eliminate them completely would be great! Thanks!

  • Katharinestefl

Way too many!!! If I go grocery shopping, easily three dozen with all those produce bags!

  • Emily

Yikes, I think I use a lot— maybe 6-8? I have gotten on board with using the big grocery bags every week, but haven’t converted to these. Maybe that will be a goal for this year!

  • Raelyn

I would probably use all five of those bags per week. I use my envirosax bags every time I go shopping, but I didn’t even know these existed. Amazing,, I am always looking for new ways to be green, this would sure help.

  • Dunlopiii

To be honest, I shop the local market, so I don’t use them at all. I just load up my basket

  • Katlep230

I try to avoid the plastic produce bags but don’t enjoy the idea of our food sitting on the gross conveyor belt so I usually end up with 5-6 produce baggies a week. The flip and tumbles would probably work well at the farmers market or quick stops at produce stands to keep veggies safe for the ride home.

  • Ryan

I probably use 4-5 bags a week. I would love to have a reusable bag!

  • Amy

I use at least 5 per week. Those bags are such a great idea and I will have to invest in some of those!

  • Kel

I use too many – probably 5-10 if I think of the produce bags from the store. I do use tupperware for lunches which results in a lot of dishes.

  • http://em-and-am.com/ Amanda

We probably use 5 – 7 of the plastic produce bags every other week when we stock up on groceries, so I guess our weekly number is 2.5 – 3.5. I mostly notice the ridiculousness of it when I have a huge cooking project and am making a bunch of things to freeze. Then I get as many as 12 at a time and feel ridiculous.

  • Amandavecchio

Unfortunately, I think I probably use around 8 of those bags per week. Reducing that number will be a goal of mine for this year!

  • SimplySusan

Not many. I hate those things and I do just about anything NOT to use one b/c I promptly throw it away when I get home.

  • Krissy@DaintyChef

way too many :( I would say I average about 7 or more

  • Lori Lindsey

We have recently changed our diet and been eating a lot more fruits and veggies, I always have multiple (at least 3 or 4) plastic bags in my fridge and would love to have these reusable bags instead:)

  • Heather

These are amazing, I had no idea they existed! We use too many, more than I’d like to admit! We eat a lot of produce so I cringe to type 8 or more. I have to say that this post is very motivating to get my act together and be more eco friendly. Thank you!

  • Jen

I use about two per week. These are really cool, never seen them before!

  • Jamie M

Hummm, probably about 6-8 a week? Way too many

  • sherri

I probably use four or five of those things a week – I definitely need to start using reusable ones! I hadn’t even thought of that!

  • Athena

I probably only use one or two. I only use them for wet, awkward stuff, like bunches of lettuce or herbs. But these would be much more efficient than just carrying the rest of produce loose , like I do. I do the best I can to keep them all grouped together, but they inevitably get separated and the cashier ends up ringing up lemons three times as they try to corral them all…

  • Hezzi-D

I use about one a week. I use cloth bags for the grocery stores, but usually forget when I go to CVS or Rite-Aid.

  • Wendy

O gosh, I’ve literally never thought about it! Maybe 8?!?

  • Sewcraftylynn

One more thing to think about…I try to take the re-usable bags for the groceries but never thought about the produce…I probably use about 5 per week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jacqueline-Strand/1269505914 Jacqueline Strand

Gosh – I’d be embarrassed to say how many – I buy a lot of produce. Let’s say on average for a week I probably use about 10

Thanks for the giveaway – I love finding ways to eliminate waste and this is a great product for that.

  • Ripnrin

I love my produce bags and use about 8 each trio to the grocery store.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jacqueline-Strand/1269505914 Jacqueline Strand

I’d be emarrassed to say how many since I buy a lot of produce but if I had to guess I’d say on average per week about 10. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Lynn

I use about 5 bags a week…apples, oranges, bananas, cuks, peppers

  • Jennifer Lange

Oh goodness! Probably five or six. I never bag things that unless they’re wet but still use too many bags!

  • Rgustin

These look awesome! I’m sure I use four a week.

  • Jenelle

I do my best to keep the number minimal. We mainly shop at a local vegetable/fruit market and they only offer plastic bags for lettuce. They reuse all of their baskets as well!

  • Caitlin

These look fantastic. I bet I use 5 each week. What a waste!

  • Sheryl

I use 20 or more since I buy so many different types of produce. At the farmer’s market, I bring my own bags but had never thought about it at the grocery store. Do you store your F/V in these in the fridge as well? Do you wash them regularly since the conveyor belt at the grocery store is so dirty?

  • Sandy

We eat a lot of produce, I’d say probably 4 per week on the average.

  • Kristin

Oh dear, 5-6? I feel guilty, but I DO use them when I scoop out the cats’ litter boxes. I’ve been wondering if they could make these out of cornstarch, so they’d be biodegradable.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1234710033 Erica Boyce

Probably 3 or 4–my boyfriend’s favorite hobby is going to the produce store near our apartment on his way home from work!

  • Jennifer Crowley

We’ve really tried to cut down on plastic bags, and use about 1 or 2 every 2 weeks. These would be very helpful though.

  • Francesca

None, we’ver stopped using them. We just pop our produce into our reusable bags and head up to the check out. These reusable produce bags would be great to have!

  • http://lingonberryjam.wordpress.com/ Krista S.

This is so great! I’m a museum studies student (as well as a foodie) and just presented an exhibition plan last night titled “It Ain’t Easy Being Green.” My very first topic looked at the fact that people use reusable grocery bags all the time but somehow overlook the wasteful plastic produce baggies. I don’t use produce bags for that reason but would love to corral my vegetables with these mesh ones. Perfect for the farmer’s market!

  • Karen

I’d say we go through at least five and I’d love to cut that to zero!

  • Cara

    I probably use 2-3 a week.

  • http://highermiles.blogspot.com/ abbi

Wow, these would be great, I use re-useable bags but not for the produce probably 5-8/week?

  • Lauren W

I could use some of these bags! My drive my roommate crazy by washing all her ziplock bags and reusing them myself, so the drainboard is full!

  • C. Sawyer

I’m continuing my organic gardening obsession but this year, I am trying to stick to only heirloom varieties from our area of NYS. My tomatoes, cukes, chilies will be preserved for the winter thanks to my new pressure canner :). Can’t wait to enjoy some green outside again! Happiest Earth Day to you, Annie!

  • Katie

We probably use no more than 4, since I don’t typically bag things like oranges, onions, potatoes and we buy apples at the Farmer’s Market with a reusable bag. But we do buy pre-bagged carrots & celery, so I guess that adds to our plastic use, too…

  • Jan

Probably 4 but it varies. I’ve never seen these before – really cool!

  • Amy

I probably have at least 8 or 9 a week. I do reuse them, though, as doggy trash bags or kitty litter clean up bags.

  • Jessen

ummm….Probably 3-5?? I usually do one big shopping/market day and quick stops throughout the week for things needed.

  • Cory

Before I joined a CSA for most of my veggies, I probably used about 5 a week. Yuck!

  • Rsinders

I use at least 5 plastic bags per week.

  • Caitlin

Probably only one or two, but only because I will totally juggle ten apples rather than use a bag. This would be so much more convenient!

  • Courtney Leonard

I love these! I probably use 3-5 bags a week, these would come in so handy.

  • Caroline

I use about 2-3 per week, depending on what I’m getting and where I’m shopping. These would be great to use!!

  • Jeanie

Way TOO many to count…the farmers market even uses plastic bags.

  • Yasmine

oooh i probably use about 4 a week

  • Stephanie

Hmmm, I will say it varies but estimating around 6ish. Ack! What a great idea! I never thought of such a thing.

  • Traci F

I probably use about 5 of those plastic bags a week. This is a great item!

  • Rachel Messer

5ish…I try to avoid them when I can!

  • kim

i use about 4 a week. Rather than just throwing them out I reuse them around the house

  • Saralapidus

These are a great idea! I would probably use about 10 per week.

  • Schnell Ashlee

I probably only use 2 just for small loose items but my husband does most of the grocery shopping and will use 6 or more, he has a slight issue with food touching lol

  • Amystrau79

    Probably 5-7.

  • Jaclyn Roth

We definitely use at least ten a week. It’s so bad! My daughter is a fruit-a- holic so we eat a lot of produce each week.

  • AnnieB

I try very hard to limit my usage, so I say one or two.

  • Rachel

These are awesome! I probably use 5 or so a week and would love to stop using so many!

  • Amy

    I’m guessing 5 or 6.

  • Jean

I shop for one, but probably around 6.

  • Justeen @ Blissful Baking

    Probably about 3 or 4?

  • Morriganirene

I try not to use them often, but probably 5 a week.

  • http://profiles.google.com/bettersaysomethingsafe Liz Malarkey

Since my hubby and I invested in a few Baggu reusable bags, we don’t use any plastic bags at all because they store neatly in my purse and they are cute so I love using them! We don’t bag our produce, we just wash it really well, but it would be so awesome to be able to corral our fruits and veggies in these cute mesh bags!

  • Danni

None, I use reusable produce bags, unless I forget to put them back in my car after I go grocery shopping.

  • Lauren H.

Hi Annie! If at all possible, I really try not to use the plastic produce bags provided. I avidly use my reusable shopping bags, so the thought of more plastic just makes me frown. I typically end up just putting produce directly into my cart, which is probably doing more harm than good with all of the germs around. I just take extra precaution to wash my veggies well at home before use. Yikes. These mesh bags would be the perfect solution.

  • Lori

This is a hard one since I’ve never really thought about it, but I bet its about 7-8 bags per week.

  • Katie Rieffenberger

I would say we go through probably 8-10/week. I should at least reuse them for the dog, but they seem too thin :(

  • Bippy1120

I must use at least 10 of those plastic bags every visit. Question: are these bags good for meat because I use the plastic for meat as well.

  • Laura

I do my very best not to take the bags for veggies, but it’s so inconvenient! I probably still use 3-4 every week.

  • Jones Katie

We shop at Whole Foods so I try very hard to use the brown paper bags they have around the produce section…however, they don’t always fit all of the produce that we buy!! Between making healthy dinners for myself and my husband and making food for our one year old I buy A LOT of produce. We probably use between 10-12 of those bags a week!!

  • Stephanie Shepherd

Two, three, maybe four? I would love something like these!

  • Melissa Herrmann

I always feel so bad using the plastic produce bags! I use maybe 3-4 a week.

  • Amelia S.

Probably only 1-2. I don’t eat as many fresh fruits and veggies as I should, but when I buy them, I generally leave them loose without a bag, unless it is herbs or lettuce or something that needs containing.

  • jen

please don’t hate me for being honest, but i probably use hundreds of those plastic bags a week. i shop every day (because we only eat fresh produce in general and we move too often to have a garden) so i buy small quantities of lots of different things on a daily basis. it’s something i have thought about in passing, because i also thought it odd that i stuff my reusable grocery bags with tons of plastic bags. i think i’m going to have to invest in some of these!

  • dashoff

I try to reuse them, but I still probably come home with 3-4 every week.

  • Emily

    One or two.

  • LynnBB

I probably use four to five plastic veggie bags on each grocery trip. What a great idea!

  • Andra Wolfe

    Probably around 2-3

  • Brittany

At least 5, and each week I think…. I should have kept the ones from last week. I love the idea of these bags!

  • Megan Schlegel

I probably use 10 or so. As a vegetarian, we eat lots of produce! Hopefully our garden will help out with this this year though!

  • Jennifer W

Sadly, I think I use 6-8 per week. Way too many!

  • Bobbie James

def never thought of it, and I am a firm believer in my cloth grocery bags! Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to think about the veggie bags!

  • Courtney P

I buy so much produce…it has to be 12 or more :-( This is an area I need to work on. Thanks for the reminder!

  • Lillie Mae Stone

I try to not use any, which is why these bags are so cool! (I end up with probably 2 every few weeks)

  • Kristen

I do try to be careful about using plastic produce bags at the grocery store, but I probably still use 2-3 per week. Now that it’s farmers’ market season I’m hoping I can get most of my produce at my local market each week — these bags would be perfect!

  • Jill

    I use about 4-6 a week.

  • Kate

I try not to use the plastic produce baggies, especially for *ONE* lime, or two apples, etc. However if I am getting a few of the same produce item, I end up using these darn things, then recycle them at home. So I guess, 2 0r 3?

  • Susan

    At least 4 – apples/broccoli/cucumbers/green beans

  • Laurahamp

    5 :( Sad day.

  • elizabeth

oh jeez. i try not to use that many, but i think that i probably use between 3-5.

  • Jade

I probably average 6 to 8 in a week. I recycle them all but still!

  • http://annehoekman.blogspot.com/ Anne

Ooh, these look so handy! Usually I just skip the plastic produce bags altogether. It kind of confuses the cashiers, and it usually means I end up with bits of asparagus falling off and ending up in the bottom of my regular grocery bags.

  • Erica

    I probably use 2-3 per week…

  • Kulali

I’ve never seen these before and they’re amazing! I used to use about 7 or 8 a week but have aimed to narrow it down to 3 or 4 – these would completely eliminate them!

  • Kristina G.

Wow, what a great idea – I’ve never seen these before! When I get groceries I come home with at least 8 or 9 of the small plastic bags so these would come in very handy.

  • Meggie3h

I love these bags. So often when I’m in the produce section, I cringe when I grab a plastic bag and think I need to get reusable ones. Alas, 3 kids and I never remember to order them :( We use 4 or 5 a week. What great inspirations for Earth Day!

  • Amy H

I don’t use a lot because we grow so much of our own, and I cringe everytime I do have to use them. So I’d say realistically, I use 1 every other week.

  • Noelle

I usually use about 4-6. I need to get some reusable produce bags as well! What a great idea!

  • Anna Snyder

I use probably 2 plastic grocery bags a week – for trash cans and cleaning my cat’s litter box. I use re-usable bags, and only get plastic at the store when I’m out of it at home.

  • Debbo

Even for my small household of two, I think I use four bags a week. Thanks for the giveaway chance!

  • http://twitter.com/ambersconfctns Amber’s Confections

I use about four to five produce bags a week, though I do try and avoid it when possible.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/JS2V22HAXXUTG4IRAVO5FYLDWY Heather

I love these!! Win them or not, I am buying some.
I would guess I average one a week. I usually leave my produce loose and cringe when I see it rolling down the yucky belt.

  • Tuck7340

I think I average about 4 a week and to be honest the food comes right out as soon as I get home so I am using 4 bags for less than an hour. Now I feel guilty!

  • Yasee

WOW!! I’ve never heard of these bags!! We probably use about 5-8 produce bags, depending where we shop for produce that is. I sometimes get produce at Costco, where it comes in one huge bag that we won’t go shopping for produce for at least a couple of weeks.

  • Ashleigh

    Oh my…maybe 10??? Too many!

  • Natalie

    I use between 6-8.

  • Catherine

I use at least 5 or 6 and that’s even when I’m trying not to use a bag when I only have one or two pieces.

  • http://www.simplysweetjustice.com/ Claire

People use too many! :P I probably use about two per week, but I reuse them when I go back to the store. :)

  • http://www.metinglife.com/ Faith

Ab out 3-4 usually. We eat a lot more produce than that-I just don’t use the bags on items that I don’t think absolutely need it. So, broccoli gets a bag (I feel like I’d never be able to wash something out of the florets), garlic doesn’t.

  • Katie

It totally depends on the week, but probably 10-12???

  • http://www.facebook.com/sarahmkeffer Sarah Meade Keffer

I probably have to use two or three a week..these would be really handy!

  • Kelley

I try to only put items in that are necessary, but I still use too many:(

  • Emily H Mitchell

Honestly, I’d probably use 5 per week! I go grocery shopping every weekend, and almost always come out with loads of fresh fruits and veggies. These look great!

Like you wrote in your post, making nutritious “brown-bag” lunches for work is another goal of mine for this year. I’ve already started setting aside time on Sundays to plan and cook one or two “meals” that I set aside *just* to bring to lunch that week. Next on my list are broccoli pad thai and pasta with pesto, asparagus, and shrimp.

  • Jade McGill

I love these bags! But I don’t have enough to cover the weeks groceries. I reuse my plastic produce bags as much as possible, but I probably (re)use about 3 a week

  • Susannah Perry

These are BRILLIANT! I go through those produce bags like crazy. At least 7 per week in the winter, less in the summer because of our garden but it’s still… not good.

  • http://pennymcknitterson.wordpress.com/ Penny M.

Unfortunately, about 3 – and at the farmers market! I try not to ask for a carrying bag, at least.

  • Mari Baker

i try to only use those bags when I absolutely have to, so not too many.

  • April Knowles

Probably only one or two. We’ve been using Green Beans so that cuts down on them ALOT!

  • Aimee

I eat as many raw foods as possible and so I usually have about 8-10 of these a week. I have tried to fit different produce into one bag but the grocery checkout person always gets mad at me for this. I’ve tried leaving the fruit and veggies loose in the cart and they usually get squished or something. I would love to have a set of these to take with me.

  • Bree

We use very few, because I shop with reusable, but produce bags would help so much! We probably use about 4 plastic bags each week.

  • Mary

I only use reusable bags when I go to the grocery store. Love these!

  • Liss

    Way too many, unfortunately.

  • Ceattock

Probably more than I like to admit — maybe about 8-10????

  • http://twitter.com/fakeginger amanda

I really try not to use the plastic bags unless it’s an herb or something that could potentially lose a bunch of pieces on the way home. So maybe 2 a week?

  • MorganH

I probably only use 2 or 3. I try not to use them for single items like an Avocado (I’ll sick the barcode right on the skin) or a bunch of bananas. But things I buy in multiples like peppers or apples, those get bags.

  • Nicole

I am terrible with thos plastic bags. I usually use about 8 a week. I like to think I am repurposing them but I know they are just horrible to use overall. Trying to break that!

  • Carrie M.

At least 8. I find them such a waste, so these would be awesome!!

  • jinny

I try to reuse plastic bags at home, so maybe 2 or 3 a week?

  • Katie A

We eat a lot of produce so probably 6-8…it is way too many! These are a great idea.

  • Shauna

I am that sucker who has loose produce rolling all over ther cart. I need these bags! :)

  • Megan

I probably use about 2 of those bags a week. These bags would be great to have!

  • Stacy

I probalby use about 2 per week. I don’t have cloth bags, but I try to not use a bag at all in some cases, when possible.

  • Jen Matzen

I try not to use the bags, but I think we probably use about 10 or so. We are able to recycle them, which helps, but it seems like a lot now that I think of it!

  • Karrie

The grocery store that I buy produce at uses paper sacks so that helps but I think I use 5-6 a week.

  • Hannah

I don’t bag anything with a peel, but I still probably use at least six per week. Ick!

  • Kelsey

    Unfortunately, I’d say I use 3 or 4 each week…

  • Lauren

Per week? Maybe 3 or 4, but a lot of the produce I buy comes packaged on styrofoam “meat trays” which I hate. I do save the trays and send them to my son’s preschool or our church to reuse for kids’ art projects. They make great paint trays and are also good for carving into homemade stamps.

  • Renee

Ooh, those have been on my amazon wishlist for months! I’ve never seen anyone using one, but you’re convincing me to take the plunge! We probably use about 5 a week.

  • Andrea_h4

I’d say 8-10 a week. I do try to grab the biodegradable ones made from corn and use those over the regular ones.

  • http://tideandthyme.com/ Laura

Hate those plastic produce bags. Hate, hate, hate! No idea they made reusable produce bags. I’d say I prob recycle at least 10 a week? Crazy!

  • http://www.evabakes.blogspot.com/ Eva @ Eva Bakes

I use maybe 2 a week but I reuse them once we get home (for garbage). These bags sound great!

  • Gillian

I actually use maybe one produce bag per week… but not because I don’t buy produce! Since I’m too lazy to buy/make my own reusable produce bags, I’ve solved the problem by deciding to just not put my produce into bags if I can help it, which I’m sure the person ringing me up just LOVES.

  • Martha

I try to use as few as possible, but that is still probably three or four! These would be great!

  • Jackie Miller

oh.. those bags! I have been trying to keep them and re-use them.. but these would be way cooler to whip out of my purse!
Right now I have at least 7 of them in my re-use-able bags and I have been using the same ways for at least 2 months!

  • KristinS

I would say I use about 8 of those plastic produce bags a week. I would love some reusable ones!

  • Kay

I probably use about 6-10 of those plastic produce bags – would love to have these to use instead!

  • Liz

We definitely use 4-5 a week… that’s for two of us. I still try to avoid using them (just leaving the fruit/veggies out of a bag when possible, haha.

  • Proudmommy3

I’d estimate 4 or 5 bags a week. These mesh bags look fabulous!

  • Cara

WOW, I have no idea. I don’t put ALL of our produce in those bags — things like bananas don’t really need to go in a bag. Still, probably 6-8. Yikes! Need these! :) Thank you!

  • Heather Taylor

I haven’t ever really thought about it, but maybe 4? I try to use one bag for a few items if I can, unless they have to be weighed.

  • http://bethsblueplate.wordpress.com/ Beth

Oh man, it depends on the week, but in all reality, I probably use a minimum of 4, but I bet there are weeks when I hit double-digits… :(

  • Nathalie B

We actually almost leave the produce on its own, which is bad because it gets bruised. But for the items that get wet or are really small, like mushrooms, we go through about 5-6 a week.

  • Cachivach12

    probably 5 or so

  • Steph

6-8 depending on the week. Too many that’s for sure

  • Alecia

    5 0r 6 weekly. These look fantabulous!!!!!

  • Annbrittan

I use probably 5 or 6 a week. although i have reusable bags for groceries i still have to use the plastic produce bags. these would be awesome

  • Gina W.

I use about 6-8 bags each week. Sometimes more!

  • Joanna

probably 2-3. i am obnoxious and sometimes just let individual things rattle around rather than use the bags!

  • Claire

My family probably uses about 6 a week. We do recycle them, but reusable bags would be so much better!

  • Kiracarey

I prolly use 6-8 a week depending on what I’m cooking. These are a great idea!

  • Heidi

I have wanted these for a while now! After seeing your Rume bags last year, I asked for them for my birthday and we love them :) I try not to get those bags unless I’m buying something that will either roll all over or make a huge mess, but probably 3 or 4…

  • LIesel

Ooh..these are so cool. I use reusable grocery bags but I’ve never been able to find a good solution to the produce stuff. I usually don’t use anything if I can avoid it. I use probably three to four per week for wet stuff.

  • Kate

    4-5 per week.

  • Amy Koliba

    Unfortunately, 4-5 a week. It’s awful!

  • Megan

we use 3 to 4 bags but we also reuse all of them. but that bag bucket is pretty full, would love to have reusable ones!

  • Jessica

Eeeek…more than I’d like to admit. I think I use a minimum of 6 from a weekly grocery trip.

  • Nan6_d

Very neat idea!! I use 5-6 bags a week.

  • shells

Probably 2-3 on most weeks, but depending on what I plan to make it could be up to 5 or 6.

  • Malissa W

way too many ( probably 6-7 a week!)! great giveaway! Thank you!

  • marti d

oh man, we probably use at least 5 or 6 produce bags a week!

  • rm

2-3. I’ll will put multiple items in the bags (like limes, lemon, tomatoes in one bag, garlic and potatoes in another).

  • Michelle Hilton

    Probably at least 5.

  • Alicia

I probably use about 6-8 plastic bags a week. The mesh bags are a great idea!

  • Katie

I try to avoid them when possible, but I probably use a few a week during the winter (in the summer we subscribe to a CSA and visit our farmers’ market).

  • Elizabeth H.

I probably use 3 produce bags a week.

  • http://twitter.com/sunnystar124 Dawn Schaffer

Unfortunately probably 5-10 depending on what produce I need that week. I’ll be buying these even if I wouldn’t win, because I’ve been looking for an alternative.

  • Laura

I probably use 3 – 4 plastic bags per week.

  • Heather W.

Ugh, I probably end up using at least 5 and I always feel bad about it! Would love to try these out.

  • Shanrock120

Probably 6-8 a week. I don’t use them for a single item of produce, but it’s hard to contain apples and oranges without them!

  • michelle

I would probably use 4. We have a local farmers market in my town twice a week. I can’t wait for it to start up!

  • Colleen

Too many! I’d say 10-12 a week. I would love a set of these bags!

  • Tracy Steinbach

I probably average 1-2 a week. I like the idea of these mesh bags!

  • Linsday

About 1. I usually just put the veggies right in my cart – I’m going to wash them anyway!

  • Lori P.

Wow. We go through so many plastic produce bags! I’m thinking we use around 15 bags each week. I cringe when I get home and start unpacking the produce because all those bags go into the trash. :(

  • Erika

Probably 3 to 4 per week. I’ve started to just put the fruit/veggies in my reusable grocery bags without the plastic baggie, but a mesh bag would be so much nicer!

  • Courtney McElhaney

I don’t use any, I really hate the ones in the grocery store, but then my produce rolls around everywhere. These would be great to keep that from happening!

  • Kim

I’d have to say definitely 3-5 per week…

  • Cpower79

I try really hard not to use the produce bags. For most things, I just put them in my cart, but I know the cashiers get frustrated because it makes a little more work for them. In reality, I would guess I use no more than 1 per week…but it would definitely be more convenient with these bags so I don’t have to dig around in the basket for all of my rogue produce. :)

  • Sara Whitehair

I use far too many (2-3?). I am really good at re-using my canvas and cloth bags for the main groceries, but not so good with produce bags.

  • Melissa Y.

3-4 at the grocery store, and then up to 5 ziploc bags to transport my fruit & veggies to work.

  • Ruchita

    I probably use 4-5 bags a week.

  • Jodi

I use about 4 a week. These reusable ones would be great to have.

  • Chap’s Wife Sarah

I’ve been hoping for a produce bag alternative. I never knew these existed!! Half of my grocery budget is produce, so I would say we use at least 10 a week.

  • Anna

Maybe 2 or 3/week? I usually just put thing directly in the cart if possible.

  • Amanda R.

I try not to use the plastic produce bags for fruit and bigger items, but for some things, it’s inevitable! We eat a lot of fresh produce, so I’d guess we use about 6-7 of those bags a week.

  • Lisa

I try to leave the veggies out of the bags, but I would say that I use at least 2-5 on a weekly basis. I would love to pack these in my reusable grocery bags:)

  • Emily Griffin

At least three! yikes, that’s a lot over a year’s time. Thanks,

  • Jen M

I don’t use plastic produce bags because I know they are bad – so my fruit and veggies just roll around in my shopping bags. I’d love to have something eco-friendly to contain them!

  • Jackie Harper

I’m moving to a house next month and I want to start a garden!

  • Kelli B.

Roughly about 3 per week. These would be awesome!

  • Kara D

This is a great idea. I probably use about 4 of those plastic produce bags each week.

  • Melanie S

In the winter we use a whole lot more, at least 15. But in the summer when we have our CSA box and our garden, it’s only a couple of them

  • EmmyS27

I probably use about 5 bags a week. I’d love to have these!

  • Jean Ballance

2-4 bags a week at least! Good food for thought to chew on. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=2902709 Kabara D Korth Praskavich

I try NOT to use produce bags for most of my stuff (anything with a cover, like bananas, citrus, avocados, etc.) but I probably use 5 a week or so on things like leafy greens and other fruits. What a waste!

  • UrbanWife

We use cloth bags but keep some plastic ones for garbage containers around the house. These are cute!

  • Sara

    2-3 bags

  • Rachel

Depending on the week I’d guess 3-7.

  • Becky

Hmmmm…I use maybe 3 a week? Most of the produce I buy is packaged in other ways (albeit, equally non-renewable).

  • Theresa S.

We definitely use a lot of plastic produce bags-we like to eat fresh veggies, and haven’t had a chance to build up our garden yet. :/

  • Jen K.

We easily use 5-8 a week (I am cringing at the thought now).

  • Jill

I use at least 3-4 a week. Would love to win a set of these!

  • Laura

I have a set of these mesh bags, but I need more! I still use 1-2 of the plastic bags a week.

  • Lindsey

We use at least 6 bags per week. I would love to try these out!

  • Shannon

I try not to use them as much as possible because its a complete waste. But sometimes I can’t help myself. At the most 4… but i try to stay at 1 or 2

  • Anne

5-7….which is weird when I think that I will use those without giving it a second thought, but I always use my reusuable grocery bags!!

  • Djwammyt

    I probably use about 5 a week.

  • M_tastsides

I probably use 6 to 10 a week. I’ve been meaning to buy these and just never get around to it. happy Earth day!

  • Nicole

Probably 4-5, but I try to find other uses for them and reuse them.

  • Anne

I get most of my produce from a CSA, but I probably still use 2-3 plastic produce bags/week…

  • erin mansfield

We have cut down on plastic bags a lot. We bring reusable bags with us to the store. If we did forget, we make sure to reuse the plastic bags for something else.

  • http://www.facebook.com/janelle.nutter Janelle Rountree Nutter

I would guess 5-7 a week, though obviously it’ll depend a little on my meal plan for that week.

  • Megan

I probably use about 7 of those bags a week…. that is a lot of bags per year! Yikes!!

  • http://themollybuckley.com/ still being [Molly]

I’d estimate 3-4 a week! these are awesome!

  • Kendra

I love reusable produce bags! I have a few, but they’re cloth and not see-through. A lot of times I forget what’s in them, and then the food goes bad. These are perfect. I actually don’t use those produce bags anymore. They started to feel like a waste of space and resources, so I just stack up my produce and wash it well when I get home.

  • http://profiles.google.com/kwugirl Katherine Wu

I imagine we use at least two or three a week…I try to be good about storing mostly clean ones to be used if we get veggies from the CSA in the summer to store away, but they get pretty grody and I’m not as good about washing out plastic bags.

  • kris

I use about 3-4 bags per week

  • Lanette68

Any produce I can leave OUT of those bags, I do. But I probably average 5-6! Not so good.

  • Jill_R

I’d say I prob recycle at least 10 a week as we go to the store almost every day. Those would be great to have instead!

  • Peggie Shultz

I don’t use any because I have a set of these bags. But one set is not enough. I use them for more than just produce. And the checkers at my grocery store love them.

  • Coldsberg

I try to use as few as possible! I bring my own bags and if I do need to use a produce bag, I
    fill it full!

  • Craigjen

We have made many changes but not this one. I probably use 7 plastic produce bags a week. We ear lots of fruits and veggies. These would be a great solution!

  • Amber

Way to many…I cringe every time! Probably 4-5 a week! I have thought about not putting the produce in the bags, but thenI think back to my days working as a grocery store clerk…the belts are so gross. The thought of my veggies sitting on them with no “barrier” had me grabby those baggies pretty quickly!

  • Jen

    I use 5 or 6 a week…I haven’t seen these before but I LOVE them!

  • Heather W.

I am ashamed to say that we use at least 6 bags per week. I’m sure some weeks more. We love fresh produce. I would rather have fresh than canned or frozen.

  • Emily

I try to not get the plastic bags, but 2 o 3 if I am buying multiples.

  • Sharon

We probably use about 5 – 6 bags each week

  • KW

Ah – do I have to admit it?!? I would say 5-10 depending on the week. These would b great!

  • Dishdelish Liz

I try to stay away from the bags, using them only for delicate items and just skipping them with things like bananas, but on average we use about 4 per week. Which ends up being over 200 a year! And just like that I’ve added another “green” goal to my list!

  • Annie Bigley

Sadly, I probably use between 5-10 a week. I mostly buy fresh produce and shop atleast twice a week. These bags are a great idea! Thanks for sharing Annie!

  • http://anniescookinglab.com/ Annie @ Annie’s Cooking Lab

I love this idea! I get so annoyed with using the plastic bags at the store that I usually just put loose produce in my basket, but then that kind of grosses me out that my apples are touching the bottom of the basket! I would love to have a nice reusable bag like those to use!

  • Kasie

Eeek, I use too many to say! These look amazing.

  • Rachel

I use about two each week. Anything that has a skin that will be peeled (like avocados and garlic), I just put loose in a reusable grocery bag and have the clerk weigh it one by one.

  • Tina

Even with a CSA, we must use at least 5-6 bags a week…

  • Kristin McKee

Wow great give away. I so need to be more green.

  • Brea

I use about two bags a week during the winter, but none in the summer because of our awesome CSA.

  • Diane

Sheesh – my husband and I love fresh produce and we go through a lot each week. I’d say maybe we use 7-8 per week.

  • http://twitter.com/ChristinaBakes ChristinaBakes

I use 3-4 / week. Thanks for hosting this giveaway

  • http://twitter.com/ChristinaBakes ChristinaBakes

I use about 2-3 bags/week. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

  • Wendy Campbell

Yep, I probably use 4-5 a week, though I try to skip them for hardier produce, like lemons and limes, and just through those in my regular grocery bags.

  • mollyjam

I probably use about 5 plastic produce bags a week, though I do typically reuse them as garbage bags in bathrooms, etc.

  • Melissa

    Probably 2-3 per week.

  • Megan

I use at least 5 per week. That really adds up in a year! This is a great product. Thanks!

  • Jody

Probably 3-4 each week, depending on our meals for the week!

  • Erin

I love these bags! Every time I go to the store I use so many plastic bags for produce and I hate it. Its probably somewhere around 8-10 bags. These bags would be a great solution!

  • Julie

I try to avoid using the plastic bags in the produce aisle as much as possible, but sometimes you can’t avoid it- lettuce, kale, beans, etc. So I would say I use 1 or so a week.

  • Jbh934

    Unfortunately, probably 3-4 a week.

  • jen

I try to use as few as possible and just let my lemons roll around the cart – probably not the best system! I do use them for brussels sprouts & little things – so probably 3 a week. I could definitely use a bag upgrade!

  • Linda S

I reuse plastic grocery bags for veggies/fruits at my farmer’s market (probably 5-6 bags per week) but these are so much cooler!

  • Stephanie Strawhecker

    I’d probably use 3 a week…

  • Brittany

4-7…I have a pattern for a produce bag made out of a T-shirt, but I’ve never made them. :P

  • Judy

I have never even heard of these bags. What a great idea. I probably user 3-4 bags a week.

  • Nicole Plzak

I use glass containers whenever possible but I still probably use 2-3 plastic bags a week :(

  • Amyp

I had a set of similar bags, but slowly they’ve been falling apart. All of those produce bags are killing me!

  • Guest

I use less than 1 bag per week by shopping every 2 weeks and combining the produce in 1 bag.

  • Shannon

I use at least 4 a week! I saw a friend with these bags a few weeks ago at the grocery store and I’ve been meaning to get them.

  • Texaswahine

I use 1-2 bags per week.

  • RanyaS

I’m guessing 3-5 bags per week.

  • Sarah A Ziegler

Living in Oregon, we actually have some cities that have recently banned those plastic bags from all stores – so exciting! We still get them from time to time (honestly, we do enjoy using them when cleaning out the cat box!) but mostly we bring our own bags to stores or request paper bags. So I’d say on average, I may do something with 1 plastic bag a week, and generally it has nothing to do with the grocery store!

  • Alison K Jamison

We live mostly on veggies, as I juice them every morning for breakfast, and we have at least 2 sides of veggies for each dinner. I (sadly) use at least 5-10 bags per week. =( If I don’t win I may just have to pick some of these up!

  • Drichards

I use between 3-4 a week. I must say though, if i am buying oranges, apples or lemons I just put them in the carriage without the bag :) i dont think the register lady likes it but all well! :)

  • Kerry F

We probably use 4 a week. These would be great to cut down on that!

  • Mwillsen

At least 3–and I would love to be able to say 0 next year :)

  • Mindy

I use about 3-4 produce bags per week..eek! I do have reuseable grocery bags but even then i get quite of few plastic grocery bags a week too! but we use those as trash bags or lunch bags or even doggie pick-up bags when we go on walks…

  • Laura

I am guessing 6-10 a week. We do recycle all of our plastic bags but it is still not enough.

  • Chatelaine

Oh wow, i’m now officially embaressed. In a week I buy 3 heads of lettuce, a bag of peppers, maybe a garlic or two and an onion or two. So 6 bags a week!!

  • Jennifer Morrison

I probably use about 3-5 per week, depending on what I’m cooking that week.

  • Barathi Sivasailam

I would say around 4-5 a week. I never even thought about how wasteful that was!

  • Lori

I’ve never heard of these bags. How wonderful. I try not to put my produce in bags at the store, but I usually end up using 2-3 each week. I’d love an idea of how to store things when I pack my lunches. I feel like I use so many resealable plastic bags every week. I do use glass tuperware, but there isn’t enough space to put everything in my lunch into a tuperware container.

  • Aliciajones80

    I would guess 6-8 bags a week :(

  • Angela

I probably use about 10 bags a week….but I reuse the plastic bags! I bring them back to the grocery store or at farmer’s markets just place the produce in my cloth bag!

  • Sarahlege

These are great. I probably use 6-10 each week!

  • Stacey

These are great! I probably use around 4-7 a week…depends on the menu. I’ve not considered those yet…that’s a lot of waste!

  • Sara

    Probably 6 – 8

  • Coleen

I probably use about 4-6 per week. I have started to put single items inside another bag and take them out when I get to the checkstand. I always have my resusable bags but could use some produce bags.

  • http://www.endlessfrontier.com/ Heidi

I probably use at least 5 or 6 a week. I’ve never seen these mesh bags before, awesome idea!

  • Jessica

    Maybe 3 or 4 a week?

  • Brandym1023

I am SO excited that you posted these!! I had no idea they even existed!! Even if I don’t win, I’m buying them ASAP! I always feel horrible using so many bags at our local market. I try to put as many different fruits/veggies in one bag ( as long as they’re not a sale by the weight type fruit… they don’t really like me when I try that…) I still go through probably 3 or 4 each week….. I do still recycle them though by using them to pick up after my dog on our walks :)

  • jean

I was just lamenting about those plastic produce bags – they go straight into the trash after I unpack groceries. :-( My husband loves all apple varieties so we stock up each week and use so many plastic produce bags – probably ~10. Thanks for letting me know about these bags, a great alternative!

  • Kerry

I think I use at least 2-3 bags/week but I would LOVE to win this give away – I just cringe everytime I reach for one. I never knew these exsisted!!!

  • Cassie E

I’d say we use about 3-5 plastic bags/week which makes me cringe just thinking about it!

  • Sarah

I love these! I have never seen these anywhere. I stopped using the plastic ones in the store probably a year ago and just grab an extra hand basket to put in my cart to put loose produce in while shopping.

  • Priscilla_W

I will buy local produce from the roadside stand just down the hill from my home. The mesh bags would be great to store my purchases. I hope I win.

  • Melissa

I try to go without the bags when I can but I use at least 2-3 bags a week for the smaller items that can go without!

  • http://upstatecalikitchenadventures.blogspot.com/ Maria

Our family probably uses about 5-8 plastic produce bags a week. Way too many.

  • Kim in NashVegas

I buy a lot of produce so maybe 10-15?

  • Jennacoddington

With the amount of produce we go through, reusable bags would be awesome!

  • Kayleneisnow

Honestly, I have gotten pretty good at just tossing most of my produce in my one big canvas trader joe’s tote…but for loose little things like mushrooms or big wet things like lettuce, sometimes a plastic bag is a necessity. I’ve been meaning to get some reusable produce bags for a long time. My official answer: 1-2 per week.

  • Katie

I probably go through about 3 or 4! I tried to not use them, but I don’t really trust the cleanliness of the carts/baskets at the store.

  • Stephanie C.

I think we use about 3 plastic produce bags a week.

  • http://epicurejenn.wordpress.com/ jenn t.

i probably use about 4 or 5 of these a week, eek!

  • Karen

i use 7 – 10 bags EVERY week. I’ve always wondered why they use them! whether I win or lose I’m going to buy these! Thanks :)

  • Desiree

    I would guess I use about 6-8 bags a week : / yikes!

  • Paula

I use about 6 per week.

  • Megan Nunan

I use about 2 per week, but try to reuse or recycle them. Most produce is from my delivery service.

  • Edankers

I go to the grocery store for produce once per week and probably use at least 5 of those “green” plastic bags. Ughh!

  • Divya Mathew

i use about five to six plastic produce bags a week :(

  • Kimberly

Wow – I had not thought of this before! But so true! The effort of remembering reusable bags seems so silly if they are packed with plastic ones still! I would say we use close to 10 plastic produce bags with each weekly grocery shopping trip… hopefully soon to be replaced with these instead! Thank you!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=680783662 Cheryl Swanson Newton

I probably average 3 a week. I reuse them until they get holes or tears, but these would be so much better!

  • Brittany K

I use 5 each week on average!

  • Leannabowles

I probably use 5 or 6 each week.

  • Elizabeth Behrens

We buy a LOT of produce, so I use anywhere from 10-15 per week. I have looked into getting reusable produce bags, but they’re pretty expensive when you consider how many I’d have to get! The plus side is that we recycle or reuse all of the bags we get. I have started saving some mesh bags that one of our local stores uses for potatoes, so hopefully I can figure out how to reuse those for other produce!

  • Christeen

I probably use at least 6 per week.

  • Chris

I have recently been trying to get more fruits and veggies into my diet, so now I would say I use 5-6 bags for produce a week.

  • http://season-with-love.blogspot.com/ Rachel

We are constantly buying produce throughout the week, so I’d say we’d use at least 5 per week!

  • http://season-with-love.blogspot.com/ Rachel

We are constantly buying produce throughout the week, so I’d say we’d use at least 5!

  • Jen

Depending on where I’m buying my produce, probably about 5 or 6 a week… I try to minimize it as best I can, and have been eyeing reusable produce bags for a long, long time. Since I like to eat a huge amount of produce every week, they would be an immensely useful staple to my environmentally-friendly arsenal!

  • Laynenp

I buy a lot of fresh produce every week so I know that I use a lot of produce bags. But I also try to fill the bags as much as possible to reduce my usage then I’ll separate everything once I’m in line. I also use the produce bags to put my fresh meat into so that I don’t get raw meat juice in my cloth grocery bags. So I probably use 3-4 produce bags with every trip to the grocery store!

You know what really drives me crazy though? Its the bag boys who can SEE that’s I’m using cloth bags and still put my glass bottles or greeting cards in SEPARATE paper bag or put my milk in a SEPARATE plastic bag! WTH?!? I’m trying to REDUCE here! :-)

  • Natasha

I’d say about 5 each week.

  • Hannah

Probably 4 on average. I think these bags look awesome!

  • Michelle Curtin

    I use about 2-3 bags a week.

  • Josiekluth

Too many! Probably about 5-10. I definitely need the mesh ones instead.

  • Ella

I’m ashamed to admit at least 6. (We do use cloth bags for shopping in general.)

  • AnneMarie

Too many! I bet at least 4-5 per week. I reuse them by putting them into my diaper bag for stinky diapers or clothes to bring home but I still bring home many more than I can find good uses for.

  • Joy

I use at least 2 plastic each week because my son eats a ton of apples!

  • Laura

We use 4-5 bags a week.

  • Leah

I almost never use those plastic bags. I just end up with a big pile of mixed produce in my cart. I’m sure the cashiers would appreciate it being separated, but I hate the thought of throwing away so much plastic each week.

  • Heather Hicks

I probably use 3 per week.

  • meg

I use about five a week and haaaaaaaaaaaate it!

  • Elise

I hate those little plastic bags! I probably use about 2 a week. I’ve attempted to make my own mesh produce bags, but was quite unsuccessful. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • rrharvey

Wow! I didn’t know resuable produce bags existed. I probably use 10-15 bags per week. :(

  • Cobler Sarah

I use about three a week

  • Melanie

    12 per week

  • Bonnie

I hate to even think of how many of those produce plastic bags I use – ugghhh. My best guess is at least 6-8.

  • Lauren

We use probably 5 – 7 a week and try to re-use as many as I can around the house but I still always have a stockpile. We use cloth grocery bags almost exclusively, but I guess I just didn’t realize there were similar produce bags.

  • JMposti4

Hello Annie! I use one a week. I put all my produce in one bag and seperate it at the register then repack. This would be a better option!
Happy Earth Day to you & yours!

  • Megan Ihlenfeld

love the idea of this giveaway! I use at least 3-4 for all my veggies and fruit.

  • Nancy

Geez – I probably use 5-10. I keep reusing them but shouldn’t in the first place I guess.

  • Dawn

I’d probably use 3-4 per week

  • Jessica Hevner

I go grocery shopping once a week, and I easily use about 10 of the plastic produce bags!

  • Michelle

I buy a lot of fresh produce as there is a farmers market near us where on every stand end, a roll of plastic bags awaits the shoppers for each item, so probably 20 a week.

  • Colleen B

I’m big on fresh fruit and veggies so I’m sad to admit that I must go through at least 7 each week. I’ve never seen these before and they look great!

  • Michkinn

We probably use about 5-6 of these each week. I re-use them as much as I can though for things like storing fresh homemade bread :) , and they come in handy for doggy clean-up.

  • Jessica

Have never seen these before- great idea! After seeing this, I am adding to my goal of discontinuing use of the plastic grocery bags AND produce bags – winning these would help! ;-)

  • Karin

My husband and I try to cram as much as we can into one plastic produce bag (we scan as we go at the store, so it’s easy for us to do this), so I’d say one a week! Luckily it’s just us, but I imagine that will go up once we start having kids!

  • Laura

Hmm, maybe 3? Most of our veggies come from a CSA, but we do buy extra. I hate using them when I need to because it’s such a waste!

  • Corey

I think I use 2 a week, but they do double duty as trash bags afterwards!

  • Jessica

SORRY – adding to my previous comment (so that i qualify) – I use approximately 6 of these bags a week.

  • Stephanie

Oh my gosh, probably at least seven per week! Eek!

  • Caroline Newkirk

    Hmmm….probably 4?

  • Mmhotchkiss

We can use up to 6 bags a week! I love fresh produce but I always feel so guilty about throwing those plastic bags away!

  • Christina

We use 5-10 plastic bags per week.

  • Alyssa Talley

Oh man…. maybe 10-15… it’s awful! Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

  • AKM

I don’t use any plastic bags–but end up with damp items that have been co=habitating with my bunches of cilantro or green onions. I would love these bags!

  • Megan

Probably 4 per week — would love to use these bags though!!

  • Jennifer

    I use probably 4-5 a week. A lot.

  • Gaby

I’d say I use only one or two a week. I use a reusable shopping bag, but I haven’t stopped to think about the amount of produce bags I use. Shucks.

  • Margaret

I use it twice a week, every time I go grocery shopping!

  • AmyB

Lately I haven’t been using any, because we’ve been getting our produce through Bountiful Baskets. Before that, it was probably 3 or 4. I’ve been trying to use less plastic in general, and I have made myself several shopping bags.

  • Debra Ackmann

Oh man, too many to count! We mainly eat produce and meat, so it’s a lot of those bags. I’ve never heard of these before, but what an AWESOME idea! Thanks for the giveaway Annie!

  • Sarah Garrigues

I would probably use 6 each week. I buy all kinds of veggies and often try to cut down on the plastic bags by not bagging my produce, but I have a feeling it annoys the person ringing me up, since the apples are rolling all over the checkout counter…

  • http://humblefoodie.com/ Alicia @ The Humble Foodie

I try to leave my produce un-bagged as long as it isn’t too wet. I use bags for produce that sits in the “mist” area and loose greens…I buy tons of produce so I probably use 3-4 per week and leave the rest unbagged. I make sure to thoroughly wash especially those items before eating!

  • KryWry

Hmm… we probably use 4 per week on average. I’ve never thought about it this way before, so thanks for calling it out!

  • Rebecca

Way too many- probably at least 5/week. I hadn’t thought about how much that was adding up!

  • Leslie G

I buy a lot of fresh produce, so probably 6 bags each week!

  • Alexandra

    3-4 a week probably.

  • Cathy

These are great! Sometimes I just don’t use a bag at all. Just grab and put in my cart!

  • Shanna Kennedy

We use about 2-3 bag each week and return them to the store with our other plastic bags to be recycled. I’m horrible at remembering to grab my reusable bags!

  • Jebks814

    1-2 per week.

  • Julie {Bananas for Bourbon}

Oh man do I need a set of these. I buy a lot of produce, so probably at least 10 a week? That’s terrible!

  • Lucremii

I use probably four a week. These would be a godsend! My best friend has these and loves ‘em. I would love to have some and be more eco-friendly!

  • AD

I use 3 per week when taking home wet, leafy veggies, but sometimes the cashier weighs my peppers and apples on the scale without a bag. It would be nice to try something reusable that I could feel good about using for all my veggies at the store.

  • kim

These are awesome! I probably use 2 a week. Wow.

  • Emily

I would guess 5 come home with me each week. I do my best to repurpose them, but not having them would be better!!

  • Sara C.

2-3 bags; these would be great at the farmers’ market!

  • http://profiles.google.com/alexandra.cosgrove Alexandra Cosgrove

My eco-friendly goal is to start composting this year!

  • lindsay

I think I use an average of 4 plastic produce bags each week – I try not to use them whenever possible!

  • Cara

These look great! Around 4 bags a week…yikes!

  • http://profiles.google.com/alexandra.cosgrove Alexandra Cosgrove

Oops, sorry answered the wrong question earlier! I probably use about 4 produce bags per week.

  • Kirsten Hasdal

We use probably 2 or 3 a week.

  • Maggie

3-4 per week, but we always try to reuse them, and recycle food waste in them!

  • Jennie

Oh man, probably at least ten!

  • Holly Chewning

Maybe 2. I refuse to put some things in those bags.

  • Lorraine

    Too many! Probably 5/week

  • Emily B.

I would love to have these. I would say that I use 3-4 plastic ones per week.

  • Kristy

1-2 every 2-3 weeks. I often just place produce straight in my cart.

  • Julie

Even though we use Grean Bean delivery for alot of our produce, we still use 3-4 produce bags a week.

  • Hannah Horecka

I probably use around 4-5 each week. I have never heard of these before; they’re such a good idea.

  • Kristin

I almost never use plastic produce bags. When I go to the farmers market or CSA, I bring a large basket. At the grocery store, I just pile produce into my cart and let the cashier deal with it (most of them are ok with this). But I would love these for the times when I want to buy something like string beans or English peas that can’t just be tossed into my cart.

  • Katiebaertibbals

5-6 i would say on average, didn’t even know these existed!

  • Anne Kennedy

I use 1-2 produce bags per week though I’m trying to cut down on that. When I go through the self-check, I don’t use the produce bags because I can just throw the veggies and fruit into my cloth bags. Like someone else said in the comments, I do use the plastic bag around any meat I buy to keep the cloth bags clean.

  • Angie R.

I buy a lot of produce and I probably use about 8-10 per week. Yikes!

  • AC

I use about 3 per week I think? I use reusable bags for checking out but don’t have a replacement for the produce bags yet. Think I’ll have to buy some.

  • Krystyna

    Anywhere from 4-6 per week

  • Jenbulpitt

Maybe 1 or 2. We try to buy our produce in bulk so as to cut down on shopping trips and plastic waste. Once in the house we don’t store them in reusable containers.

  • http://twitter.com/kbeware Cookies! by Kristin

I try not to use produce bags honestly! Especially if its something like 1 onion or 1 bunch of broccoli or bananas. But apples, oranges, etc.. do go into the bags, I’m guess 2 a week.

  • Saraj52

I use at least 4 a week. We used to try to reuse them like we do with other plastic bags but the produce ones rip too easily to make them as functional.

  • cookingalamel

I usually try not to use the bags unless it’s absolutely necessary (for greens and such), so I probably only use 1 or 2 each week!

  • Lucky413

I probably use 5 per week.

  • Lydia

Wow, I have never seen these before! I buy a lot of fresh produce since I love it and I make my own baby food, so probably about 4-5 a week. :-

  • Willa Mcneill

    Great idea!

  • Laura P

    2-5 depending on the week

  • Mrs Kat Moore

At least five a week, I am ashamed to admit. I have never seen these mesh bags before, but I now see that I need them now lol

  • Laura J. Latham

I use very few. If I buy less than 3 -4 of a certain item, I don’t get the bag. I just put them in my cart. However this year we plan to buy more from the local market, which is within walking distance. So some produce bags would come in very very handy.

  • Megan

If I’m buying larger produce (carrots, peppers, onions, etc) I don’t use a produce bag at all. For smaller things (green beans, herbs, small potatoes, etc) I’ll grab one to keep them all together.. probably adds up to 2-5 per week, depending on meals. I’ve always wanted reusable produce bags!!

  • Laura J. Latham

Oh that makes me crazy. Or if I happen to forget my cloth bags, I ask for paper and the bagger still gives me plastic bags for certain things. I actually got into an argument with one bag person who claimed it was store policy that she HAD to put my meat in a plastic bag. And not just one plastic bag for all the meat, but each package had to go into a separate bag. My head nearly exploded that day.

  • Leslie

Just today I brought home 4, I probably run 6-8 a week – such a waste! These bags look great.

  • Joann

    At least 8 :/

  • Lacey McC

I probably use 6-8 per week.

  • Stephanie

I use between 4-6 a week at the least, sometimes more, sometimes less. I try to make good use of them at home so they don’t just get thrown away.

  • Moynihan Michele

I try to “conserve” by using 1 bag for a couple of produce items. But I can still use 3-4 in produce. That doesn’t take into account the meat section either which is 2-3.

  • Erin

I’m going to guess 4, but it really depends on the week!

  • BeckyR

1-2 per week. We try not to use them if we don’t have too….

  • Jackie

4 on average, there is a crochet project mats for the homeless that uses the plastic bags to make mats to sleep on. Also did you hear of the new species of mushroom recently found that eats plastic? http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/this-could-be-big-abc-news/more-mere-magic-mushrooms-154207424.html

  • Skilakezurich5

I keep a market basket and reusable bags in my car and by the door so I very rarely use plastic bags. I wish my newspaper could be delivered without one!

  • Katieleehenry

Sadly, I use about 8-10 plastic produce sacks a week.

  • Jennifer Horn

I probably use 2-3 bags every week.

  • Sara Ledford

I probably use about 4-5 a week. These bags look like a great alternative!

  • Nancy

I use 5-7 per week. I always recycle them, so I even though I’ve been thinking about getting reusuable ones, it hasn’t gotten prioritized like it probably should have. Lately, though, I’ve been seeing many empty plastic bags flying around in the wind. I think it’s such a sad sight.
    Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Tara_Bean

I probably have about 7 in my fridge at all times.

  • Alanna

I use zero produce bags a week. I’ve been refusing bags for a long time now, but I don’t always have a good alternative. Once my brother and I were walking around the city and happened upon a market. I desperately wanted green beans to snack on, but I didn’t have a bag. We weighed out a pound of green beans and then proceeded to stuff them in the pockets of over coats and pants. Needless to say, I could use some produce bags!

  • Aharrer

I try to not use the plastic bags and just carry onions and potatoes and everything in just a cloth bag…but probably a couple plastic bags make it in…

  • Ella

Way too many! Probably about 6?

  • Amanda Davis

Oh gosh we probably get 4-5 each week! I keep them and use them as bathroom trashcan liners but they still pile up. These look awesome!

  • Emouakamom

Unfortunately too many!! I would say we use up to 8 a week in fruit and vegetables. I never even knew there was something like this out there!!

  • Lindsey

Hmmm. Probably 3 a week :(. These bags look great!

  • Alicia

I currently have produce bags similar to these, but I need an extra set to keep in my car. I often stop by the store on my lunch break and never have produce bags with me so I have to use the plastic ones.

  • Morgan

At least 5.. I have never seen these before- awesome!

  • Dana Isenberger

between 2-6. I put them into a larger bag to be recycled but I still feel weird pulling out my reusable bags then putting plastic produce bags into them.

  • Heather

I’d say an average of 1 a month. I almost never use them for anything and they don’t have them at the farmer’s market that we use for almost all our produce…lots of canning and freezing happens at our house!

    Heather

  • Emily pence

I use about 2-3 bags per week.

  • Michelle Cugini

Probably about 6. I’ve been eyeing these other options. Hopefully I’ll win these!

  • Ruthi East

I have 3 mesh bags and then I use at least 3 more weekly

  • Llatham79

I try and use as few as possible, but I think that I use about 5 per week

  • Katie

I end up using (what averages out to be) two per week. Never thought about how unnecessary they are. Good idea!

  • Kelly

I must use at least 10 plastic produce bags each week. I feel so silly, because I always bring my own bags to carry groceries home it, but they’re filled with plastic produce bags!

  • Sally

We use probably 4-5 a week.

  • Johurst31

I would love these! I use probably about 10 bags each week. I hate it but usually don’t have any better options!

  • Margaret Pavithran

    about 4

  • Ashley

4-5. I’ve been planning on making some mesh ones though. Good reminder!

  • kelley stone

We are able to grow the majority of our vegetables, but recently my husband has been juicing for breakfast every day, so we use a lot…probably about 8!

  • Christine P.

I think I use about 4-5 a week. The mesh produce bags you posted are a perfect solution!

  • Rebecca

On average, I’d say my household uses seven to eight of those plastic produce bags a week. (We have five people living here.) I didn’tr even know little mesh bags like these existed!

  • amanda

I probably use about 3 a week. I try to only use them for herbs and fruit — everything else ends up in a big produce jumble in my cart!

  • Luckyb0013

I use 2-3 of the plastic bags a week.

  • Laurel

I try not to use the plastic bags, but sometimes 3. Usually, my produce ends up in a big stack in my basket and-I’m sure-annoys the cashier when he/she has to weigh each type. These Flip and Tumble bags would surely be helpful (and the cashiers will thank you)!

  • Kelly P

Oh man, just when I was feeling pretty good about my earth friendliness you reminded me about these. I probably use 3-5 per week. I really need to get some reusables!

  • Laura C

I try not to use them, so maybe 1 a week but I would love some reusable ones.

  • Fran

Ugh it depends, if I go to the produce market, like 10 otherwise maybe 1 or 2 on bulk goods.

  • Soccergal2018

Too much!!! Probably 6-8 a week.

  • Kristen

I probably use about 5 produce bags per week. It’s crazy because I never thought about how ridiculous it is that I use reusable grocery bags (religiously, mind you) but waste so much plastic inside of them. Thanks for making me aware–it’s definitely something I’m going to work on cutting out this year.

  • Betzsaj

I use three to four, depending. However, I do ‘recycle’ them and use them as freezer bags for my home made bread…..so all is not a loss. I use them several times and then throw them away.

  • Linda

I’d say around six. I won’t use one unless. I really feel the need for one, but it is still pretty frequent.

  • Shelby

    I’d say I use 2 per week.

  • Susan

I try to use as few as possible, but it still usually ends being about 2-3.

  • Julie

I have had my eye on these bags for awhile. Need to use so I can set an example to my children.

  • Julie

I use about one a week. I put all my produce into one or leave it unwrapped. The cashiers don’t like it but I don’t want to come home with six or seven of them!

  • Arosing

Wow, I can’t believe I haven’t used these yet. I think I go through 8 produce bags per week.

  • Alyssa

    2 or 3

  • Lauren King

I actually try not to use any – I really want bags like these, but haven’t gotten around to getting any… so I tend to throw everything together into my shopping bag (I have a scanning option at my grocery store, so I scan and bag as I shop).

  • Jen B

I probably use 4 or 5 – wow, I hadn’t though about how many that ends up being over time

  • Jennifer

What a fabulous idea! I’ve never seen these! I use way too many now that you mention it…:( maybe 6 or 7 a week.

  • Meli R

I might use 1-3 bags a week. But I want to start going to the farmers market and would love to have these bags! Thanks!

  • Katie

At least 4/week. Way more during the winter when our CSA isn’t supplying most of our produce.

  • Carolyn Allen

It depends on how many veggies I buy… but usually between 5-10. I just peeked below to some of the other comments and my number is slightly embarrassing… but it’s the truth!

  • MeliB

Oh wow… probably about 10-15. I didn’t even know these exsisted!

  • Lindsey

I have wanted a set of these for a while now, but I have yet to purchase them. I probably use 2 or 3 of the plastic bags per week, but I also end up with a ton of lose produce in my cart because I’m trying not to use the bags. I would love a set of these!

  • Rachel P.

We use at least 3-4 bags per week.

  • Leanne

    Around 3 a week.

  • Christinacox

I use about 0-5 a week. I usually take old ones to the store but sometimes I don’t take enough of them. I try to re-use them unless they are really gnarly. (They are kind of hard to wash & dry.) This is something that bugs me – and I’m in Santa Monica which has imposed a plastic bag ban (yayyyyy!!!)
Really appreciate the eco conscious vibe in your blog…

  • Lisanew412

OMG–I bet I use 6-8 per week on average. Yikes…

  • JMortin

My family eats alot of fruit and vegetables each week….most of my shopping cart is filled with items from the produce section. Along with the produce comes the dreaded plastic bags….I would say we uses at least 10 a week….maybe even up to 15!!! I would love to break the plastic habit and these bags are just what I need to get started!

  • Carla

Zero. I love answering this question. I reuse small paper bags or just have the produce roll around the basket. So, yeah, these bags would come in handy = )

  • JMortin

My family eats alot of fruit and vegetables each week…..our grocery cart is mostly filled with items from the produce section. Along with the produce comes the dreaded plastic bags to get them home….I would say we use 10-15 a week…..yikes!!! I would love to break the plastic bag habit….these produce bags are just what I need to get started!!!

  • Heidi

    OMG!! I need those.

  • Brenna J

Too many!!! Probably 6 to 7 per week. I hate using so many and try to reuse them at home!! I didn’t know they made mesh produce bags! How awesome!

  • Jennifer

We buy so much produce… I would say we easily use 10 bags a week if not more… I would LOVE to reuse my own!

  • http://profiles.google.com/nicsingleton411 Nicole Singleton

I’d guess 5-7 a week. I go grocery shopping every two weeks and I think 10-14 bags of produce is accurate.

  • Laurie Adams

We use 3-4 each week. These are a great alternative…and not having to deal with getting those little plastic bags open (which can be such a pain!) is an added benefit.

  • Megan

I try to use as few as possible. I think the cashiers get very annoyed, but I don’t need the plastic bags. These reusable bags look amazing!

  • JMortin

at least 10-15 per week…my family eats alot of produce!!

  • Ambermarie77

    Probably 2-3 every week. Yuck!

  • Ashley

I only use about 2 or 3 each week since majority of my produce comes from the farmer’s market.

  • Linda

Probably 4-5 produce bags per week.

  • blissedmama

I use about a dozen between the store and the weekly farmer’s market, but I reuse them each week. I try to go without at the grocery store too, though it really irks the cashier sometimes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/darcielynncohee Darcie Cohee

I probably use approximately two or three per week.

  • Jessie M.

I probably use about five per week. -shame-

  • Christina Harroun

On a typical week, I probably use three produce bags. Some times more.

  • Jana

I think I just use a couple a week, but maybe I’m way off. Whatever the case, these are so cute. My questions is, how much do they weigh? I don’t want to pay for my bag every time I go to the store.

  • Lisabpt

Too many–probably 3-4, but I do try to recycle them and I do use reusable bags for my general shopping.

  • elizabeth

Also ‘too many’! I try to re-use them doubled-up for dog walking duty (doody) and wet swim gear from the gym, but they still pile up.

  • Tyffanie

Ugf, this is one thing I really want to change for us because we do use quite a bit of the plastic produce bags. I’d say on average we use 15-20 per week because I don’t currently have reusable produce bags. I’d love to get my hands on some though!

  • Sarah Wethern

Sadly I probably use between 4-5 for just a single person. I’ve been great about getting reusable grocery bags but this, this is something I definitely need for my produce. I do try to reuse the plastic bags when I can.

  • Lisa I.

oh probably around 2-3 per week….sometimes i’ll just grab a few fruits from the grocery store and NOT grab a plastic bag, but most often, yes i still use plastic bags for the fruit and veggies.. :(

  • Michelle

I probably use three each week, but if I’m buying only one or two of an item then I don’t put it in a bag.

  • jessica

I’d guess around 10. I try to double up non-weighed items like green onions and cilantro, but we eat so much real food that it’s hard not to use so many!

  • Liz

I use about 2 per week.

  • Alyssa

I don’t use any right now because I’m on my school meal plan, but I would love to have these bags so I won’t have to use those plastic bags next year when I move into my apartment!

  • Javahh318

I think I use about 5-7 of those plastic produce bags a week (and I hate it)!

  • Melinda

maybe 2-3? I cook for one, so I don’t buy a ton of produce every week. One fruit, one to 2 vegetables, that’s it!

  • Amy Salyer Barton

I use NONE, because I have a set of these bags! But I would LOVE to have another set! :)

  • Erin

Probably 2 or 3. Would love an alternative!

  • Brooke Keenan

at least 5….I would like it to be none!

  • Carol

    Probably five. Yeesh.

  • Anne

Too many. Ugh. Probably 4-5, I’d say.

  • Joy B.

Those plastic bags make me cringe everytime I throw one away. I would say I use 3 per week.

  • Shannon

I rarely use the plastic produce bags, but I do buy in bulk at Costco a lot so I need to figure out how to utilize my cloth bags in order to eliminate the big plastic packaging!

  • Andrea D

    Maybe 3-4?

  • Cassandra Flannery

    I probably use 10 a week!! Yikes!

  • Nancy Predmore

I end up with 5-10 per week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=11500413 Toby Trachy

I actually don’t use too many bags – most of my produce comes from a CSA and they send everything without bags, but I need something to keep that produce fresh! These bags would be perfect!

  • Lauren

I’ve never even heard of these. What an awesome idea! I definitely use at least 3 produce bags per week.

  • Dlstrom

These bags would be great instead of using the plastic bags in the produce section.

  • Megan

I probably end up with 2-3 per week!

  • Nikki

Unfortunately more than I should, about 10. I’ve been juicing every day and go through alot of produce. I do reuse them when possible.

  • Casey E Dunne

Oh my gosh. I probably use AT LEAST 15 a week, but it’s probably exponentially more since I changed my diet to include a wider range range of fresh stuff and way less packaged stuff. So, bottom line, I use TOO MANY.

  • Marty

Hmm, I probably bring home between five and ten a week. I do reuse them when I walk my dog, but I always seem to have a stockpile that’s much too large.

  • Kjthiel

Oh man this is the one aspect of grocery shopping I haven’t eco’d up. I bet I use 4 or 5 a week. I could definitely use these!

  • C C

With a family of seven, I don’t even want to think about how many we go through, probably around 8 or so- yikes! I would probably be more likely to buy healthy fruit with these gems!

  • C C

With a family of seven, I don’t even want to think about how many of those I use, probably around 8 a week- yikes! I would probably be more likely to buy healthy produce with these gems!

  • ktwist

    probably 5!

  • Domap1219

We probably use about 12 plastic produces bags a week.

  • Alisa Meyer

We probably use 3-5 bags a week, plus whatever is in our GREEN B.E.A.N. bin. I love getting that fresh produce delivered to our door, but odds are we still end up picking up a few things at the store.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/Z453QZDYMCVADKP4M4WDMX76RQ Sarah

Only a few–I have a set of these already but I’d love another to cut the plastic altogether!

  • DarrahN

Probably two: gotta get my greens and seasonal fruit!

  • Sara G

We almost never use the bags. Just throw it all in the cart and then into the reusable shopping back. Some items from our green bean delivery come in plastic bags and I just throw them back in the bin so they can be resused.

  • Mary Beth

Unfortunately, I probably use about 4-5 per week .

  • ana

i use 3-4 a week. i never knew about this product. what a good idea! :D

  • Denise

We use approximately 4 bags per week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1159980031 Cyndi Schweibold

We buy tons of produce when we make trips to the grocery.. we probably use 5-6

  • http://butyoucancallmecrazy.blogspot.com/ Lynn

We probably use about 3 per week, but then my husband reuses them as lunch sacks since he seems opposed to actually using a real lunchbox. Trust me, I’ve tried. I don’t get it.

  • Lilly_28

    About 5-10

  • Chelynnelile

Up to 5 or so each grocery trip. Yikes!

  • Melissa

These bags look awesome! Even if I don’t win, I’m glad to learn about them. We eat a lot of different types of fresh produce and we also use those plastic bags for meat, so we go through a lot of them. I’d estimate 10-15 each week.

  • Abby H.

on average I use about 3-5 per week. I actually don’t use them for bananas or avocados; just greens, tomatoes and anything small that will roll all over my cart.

  • Nataliekate Webster

We shop regularly at the farmers market and lob it all into the reusable bag together! We still go the the grocery once a week, and probably use about 2 or 3

  • Brenda

I use one or two if I have to, but most of the time, stuff is just flying around in the cart. I have been eyeballing similar bags to this at my local health food store!

  • carolyn

    4 to 5

  • Candersonj

5-6, I reuse some of them as trashbags for the bathroom trash.

  • Kristen

We probably only average 1 plastic bag every other week. I try not to use plastic bags for most produce, but when you get something wet or too small (like fresh herbs or green beans), the darn bags seem unavoidable! I’ve been looking for something like these, so I’ll definitely buy even if I don’t win! Thanks! :)

  • Kai

Probably 2-3 which is too much!

  • Kate W.

we only use a few, but I generally only use them for produce that is wet…everything else is fine loose.

  • Diane

We probably use about 4 -5 a week, depending on the season of the year.

  • Inna

    I’d say 5 a week.

  • Meredyth

I try not to use plastic produce bags at all, but these would make shopping a whole lot easier!

  • http://locolocavore.wordpress.com/ Mason

Thankfully, I only use maybe three or four because I buy my produce exclusively from the farmer’s market and my CSA, and just load what I can onto their scale and then straight into my bag. I would love to make that number zero though! These look like a fantastic addition to the shopping trip.

  • Jennifer Frank

    probably around 4.

  • Teela

This is absolutely genius!!! We use 6-7 plastic produce bags every time we go to the store :-(

  • Stephanie

Unfortunately, we use about five of those plastic produce bags a week (cringe!) It would be so nice to cut down!

  • STilson

probably 3-5. what a great idea!!!

  • Shelley

I use probably 4 plus. I’ve thought the same thing too about filling my reusable grocery bags with these. What a waste!

  • Rachel Tilly

I use about 4 a week, but would love to own some of these wonderful bags so I could use less plastic!

  • Maree

    Sadly, I use a lot…maybe 5-10 a week :( yuck!

  • Cathryer

Some weeks are better than others on this since I always forget to put my reusable bags back in the car . I would say on average 7 bags

  • Stacy

I’ve NEVER thought about this and I’m a stickler on re-using grocery bags! I probably use 5 plastic bags per shopping trip just for produce/meat. Whoa!

  • Michaela R.

I use about two bags for produce each week.

  • http://bakingmyway.com/ Jenna

Probably 2 to 5 a week, depending on where I’m shopping

  • http://www.books-n-cooks.com/ Books n’ Cooks

I use 3-5 produce bags each week. When I buy only 1 or 2 of an item, I try not to bag it. I also reuse the plastic produce bags in an attempt to be a little greener. This is the first I’ve seen of the reusable ones – what a fabulous idea. I very well may end up buying them if I don’t win!

  • Kandyce Pinckney

i’d love these! we use probably 3 or 4 per grocery trip, which we average about every week and a half to two weeks… usually i skip the bag, but sometimes that earns me a look of annoyance from the cashier. ;)

  • Brooke

I don’t use, but maybe 5 a year. A lot of times I buy it not bagged at all or use my own.

  • Snowhte21

We switched over to reusable bags when we go to the grocery store and when we pick up our weekly csa. These produce bags look awesome!

  • Rebecca

Sadly I probably use about…8-10 in a given week. I’ve always thought more about the actual grocery bags being plastic than the produce bags!

  • Kathleen

I probably use 3 min a week. Thanks for pointing this one out!

  • laurieVA

probably 5-6 and i cringe every time i tear one off the roll.

  • Sheri Westbrook

Probably four…I take my own grocery bags but cringe every time I use a plastic produce bag…these are great!

  • Heather Koziarz

During the winter, usually 5-6 a week, and less in spring and summer since I do much of our produce shopping at the farmer’s market

  • sarah

Hmmm….probably 4 at the most, depending on the week

  • http://seasonedjoy.com/ Sheila

I probably use 3 or 4, and yes, they go into reusable shopping bags which does seem ridiculous.

  • AmyR.

I never even knew these existed. But I must get some! Between the store & our farmers market & the roadside stand down the road (depending on the season) I bet I’d use about 8 per week. Which is a terrible waste! Thank you for introducing me to these!!

  • http://www.tablefortwoblog.com/ Julie @ Table for Two

I probably use about 8-10 of those produce bags a week :( it’s bad but these bags seem like such a great alternative! never knew about them until now. even if i don’t win, I’ll probably purchase these anyway :)

  • Catherine

    10

  • Amy

More often than not I just put produce loose in my cart since I’m going to wash it well before use anyway. However, it does worry me a little as it gets tossed around loose and of course that doesn’t work for smaller items either. I never knew these existed and they’re the perfect solution. So winning some would cut down my three or four bag a week use to none!

  • Mbb

    maybe 10 a week?

  • Stephanie D

Oh, fun. I could probably save anywhere from two to ten plastic bags per grocery trip (depending on how many vegetables it takes to build that week’s meals) with something like this. It’s funny, I have switched to reusable grocery carry-bags but not for the items that go into those bags. Will have to look into it!

  • Erica

Sadly, probably close to 15-20. We are vegan so a lot of my grocery list is produce.

  • Ddk9

I use way to many probably 6 and have not seen these bags.

  • Brittany

    I use about 6 a week.

  • Leslie

Probably about 6 which is way too many. Feels odd to buy organic and then throw it in a plastic bag though.

  • Karenjwatson

    Probbaly 5.

  • Sweettoothduo

5-6. We eat a lot of produce. EXCELLENT IDEA!! I hate using plastic too, and even if I don’t win I am going out to buy some of these!

  • Beth

I use about 10 a week. We always recycle them – but I would love to go all reuasable! These little bags look awesome! :)

  • Kaitlin

These would be awesome, every time I go to the store lately I think about how much plastic I am wasting with produce bags! I think I would use at least 5 every week. :)

  • Ashley

We probably use 5 each week.

  • Stacy

Sadly too many, about 3-4. I would love to have these reusable bags!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1740357862 Renee Carnes

I probably use 3-5 plastic produce bags a week. I try not to use them for things like bananas and I try to use them as trash bags when I’m done with them. I’d love some of these mesh ones!!

  • Fmstill

    I would guess I use 3-5 a week.

  • ms

    probably about 10

  • Jenny

On average one or two. I try not to use them at all unless the produce is going to go everywhere.

  • Amy S

    Maybe 2-3 a week

  • Nic

    5ish :(

  • Jaw Jaf

I try not to use them at all. Even at the grocery store I forgo them unless really needed so maybe 2 per week.

  • Lynn

We probably use 4-6 per week.

  • Amy

    Probably 4

  • Karapetrashek

I try to use as few as possible, maybe 2-3. There are always stray mangos rolling around in my cart, but I can’t really pile green beans in there:) Love these bags!

  • anniek10

I would love to use these bags. they look great and can be used at the supermarket or market and then put in the refrigerator. I hope I win.

    anniek10@gmail.com

  • Sara

These bags look awesome! I use about 4 of those plastic produce bags a week but trader joes packages all the produce in tons of plastic and styrofoam so I would love to work on eliminating that waste as well.

  • Philby

Probably 5-7 a week! I hate having to use them, but I try to drop them off at a bag recycle or I use them for my small trashcans.

  • Julie Janis

Ah…I use about 15 of those bags each week. They do get recycled as lunch bags though.

  • Susan Smith

On average, I think just one.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Blue-Strong/100001933815908 Blue Strong

We don’t shop every week and we use some plastic from the store. Like for meats.

  • Sarah M.

We use 7-10 bags per week. Not only do we use them for meat and produce but for bulk snacks and dry goods. I always feel silly as my reusable grocery bags get filled up with plastic produce bags! These Flip and Tumble bags have been in my Amazon wish list for quite some time, so it would be great to win them!

  • Jen

5-6 per week. I don’t like using them, but sometimes have no other option for wet, bulky produce. I do try to recycle them, though. A set of these bags would be fantastic and I’d feel better about filling up our reusable shopping bags with something else reusable!

  • Alyse

    Oh gosh…at least four!

  • Samiam22

Love these! I try to get away with as few as possible but it still adds up to three or four a week.

  • Emily

I probably use 3-5 a week, which is way more than I wasn’t to use. I do make sure to reuse them for things like walking my dog though.

  • Amy

I use probably 5 per week, but these bags look awesome, I’d love to start using them instead!

  • Elisabeth

Oh, my! I think I annoy the cashiers when I check out because I don’t stick my 3 tomatoes or 2 apples in a bag. But on average I think I use up to 10 of those silly produce bags a week. That is the one type of reusable bag I have always REALLY wanted!

  • Kristen

I would say about 6 per week

  • Megan Shaner

Oh yikes, I use way too many. I’ve been trying to cut back…but I bet at least 3 to 4 a week for our family of 3. I LOVE the idea of reusable baggies!!

  • Sarah

I buy a lot of my produce my local farmer’s market so I have been able to cut down on the bags. However, I still supplement at the grocery store. I probably use between 2-4 bags every trip to the supermarket.

  • Amy

Oh, probably 4-5 a week…although 1 a week is 1 too many! These bags are the perfect way to get my number to zero from now on! Thanks.

  • DanaC

More than Im comfortable to admit to :( Its the one thing Im picky about with my produce being free rolling in the cart thats had who knows what in it.

  • Krystyna

I know I use five but I try to remember to bring them more often and lately I have been quite successful in remembering to bring them with me to the grocery store.

  • Stubbes

I’d say 2 to 4 ! but with these none!!! the would be great to use and then would just have to add them to my cloth ones to take with me :)

  • Shelly

A lot! Probably 8-10, but I do reuse them until they are too gross and then use them for garbage bags.

  • Paula McElrath

Maybe 8-10! We have a Sprouts by us with great produce!

  • Mei

    six probably…whoops.

  • Margaret Hruschka

I tend to use three or four, but that might be because I’m not eating as many vegetables as I should and that I am just often too lazy to use a bag when I can put an item in the basket and wash it later.

  • Christine Nguyen

While some produce are okay without baggies (cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, etc.), I cringe having to grab plastic bags to store green beans and other small fruits and veggies such as cherries and brussel sprouts. I use at least 3-4 a week. I stuff them in my drawer hoping that they’ll be reused again, but there really isn’t much they’re useful for.

  • Bill Lichtenberg

On average per week I would say I use about 2 plastic produce bags at most per week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1744591956 Avilene Cueto

Those bags look amazing! I don’t go to the grocery store often because I am a college student so I just save my grocery list till I’m at the point where I am out of nearly everything. I use about 2 produce bags per week.

  • LeGwen

I pack my husbands boiled eggs for breakfast everyday, then his lunch (even though he reuses his bags) and then leftovers……I’d say between 10-15 bags a week. I need to make a change.

  • Idgiescottage

Oh My – Since I started juicing a couple of weeks ago, I would have to say that we are bringing home 14-20 of the plastic store bags per week. I do my best to repurpose and recycle them, but eliminating them altogether would be a happier alternative.
Thank You For the Opportunity to Win These Fabulous Bags!
    Sincerely,
    Laurie

  • jill

Thanks for the tip on the produce bags, great idea!

  • tracy

We use about 3 plastic produce bags and then reuse them for garbage bags. Now that I know they make reuseable ones, that will change!

  • Renekratz

These are awesome! If I don’t win, I’m going to buy some. We don’t use many of those plastic produce bags, because we get our produce delivered by a farmer, but then I use ziplocs to separate all our produce. These would totally replace our ziploc habit!

  • Eguidry91

I use about 7 plastic produce bags a week. While I use reusable grocery bags, I haven’t made he switch for produce bags. But would like to!

  • josh

    probably three to four

  • Mia W

I try to only use them for wet produce, so maybe 2?

  • Michelle H

I use probably five of them a week… ouch! For some reason they had never even occurred to me as being unnecessary, thanks so much for the wake up call!

  • Phyllis

We use 4 or 5 a week-gotta get these bags!

  • Jenny

I stopped using them for the majority of my produce a few years ago…. I would imagine that I saved over 200 a year by not using any! The only time I still have pulled one of those plastic bags out is when I get something like green onions or cilantro that is still wet from being misted-

  • JMortin

We eat a lot of fruits and vegetables…..our grocery cart is usually filled with items from the produce section of the store. Along with the produce comes the dreaded plastic bags…..we use 10-15 a week…yikes!!! We need to break the plastic habit…..using these bags would be a great place to start!

  • Karen

Probably use about 4-5 a week

  • Sandie Custer

probably only 3 a week- would love to not have to use them at all.

  • Bebe

I really try and not use the plastic produce bags, maybe one every 3 weeks.

  • Amarrano55

Yikes! I try to not use them and just put our produce in with the rest of the groceries, which seems to tick off the cashier, so these would definitely come in handy. I would say I use about 2 a week.

  • Ashley

I got some reusable bags a few years ago, but they are looking quite rough! On average I use at least 4 bags a week, but then I also don’t put some produce in a bag, to save a little :)

  • Sviggiano10726

I probably use 5 -6 each time i am at the grocery.

  • Jill

Rarely ever. The only time I use one is if I get something wet like lettuce, but I avoid them as much as possible. It would be nice to have these though, for the times I do need something.

  • Rachel Best

Definitely less than 2. I try to just weigh items and then toss them into the reusable shopping bag with the price sticker. Would love to use these bags though!

  • http://www.facebook.com/mittenlady Charlotte Reid Besaw

Holy cow! I do buy a lot of produce at the store, and cringe when I have to take those thin plastic bags that are frankly good for nothing after that first use. Besides, we just have to stop using plastic. These bags look terrific, easy to carry and you can see through them! I once made some from leftover Tshirt parts, but hey, you can’t see what’s in them, and that just messes up the cashier.
We probably use 6 or 7 each week.

  • Ryanandtiffany

Probably about five or six if I had to guess.

  • Maggie

We use about 4 or 5 each week.

  • JennPT06

ah man… I (unfortunately) use >10 of those a week. We’ve been really trying to eat healthier and fresher, so we’ve been going through A LOT

  • Angie Miller

I use maybe one a week. I use produce bags already, but need a few more!

  • Stacey

I don’t eat nearly enough vegetables, so maybe 1 a week.

  • Kate

I don’t use any, unless it is something small and loose like Brussels sprouts or bulk greens. But I would love to be able to keep my veggies clean and safe with these bags! I’ve looked at them several times on Amazon and just haven’t pulled the trigger yet to buy them.

  • Leslie H

probaby 10-12 b/c I buy alot of produce a the grocery…I need those bags!

  • karlawar

Ive used reusable grocery bags for several years. We eat a salad every day for lunch so I use lots of the plastic bags. I reuse them when I walk my dogs but ultimately they get tossed. I probably bring home 6-10 per average week. I combine veggies in one bag so as to use fewer. How can we make a recyclable dog poop bag??!!

  • Patricia

What a great idea. We buy our produce during the growing season from our local farmer’s market and CSA and I bring my own bags there and to the grocery store. But it never occurred to me to have reusable bags for the produce instead of using plastic. I do recycle the plastic veggie bags whenever possible but these bags are a much smarter idea. I love them. Reading your blog was a real eye-opener today. Here I thought I was being really “green” but found out there is an area of improvement.

  • Susan P Erwin

I use about 4 to 5 per week. Would love to know if these could be used to store produce in the refrigerator.

  • Dutton1994

I use 5-10 per week. I’ve never seen these reusable bags. What a great idea.

  • Janita Goldman

These are very cool. Great way to cut down on plastic bags for your produce.

  • Carole_fj

Like you, we always use reusable grocery bags and have given sets of them to our kids and parents. I feel like crying every time I see plastic bags hugging the trees on our roadsides. I would love to have some produce bags like these so I don’t have to bring home plastic produce bags!

  • Annas

I’ve never seen this product before — cool! I buy a LOT of fruits and veggies weekly. I’d guess on average I use 5 – 6 per week. yikes….

  • Pam A

I would say we use about 4 a week. We love our fresh fruits and unfortunately we need to use them. They are such a waste though because I throw them away as soon as I get home to put the food away. These bags would be great for us!

  • Courtney Lewis

I think I use a minimum of 4 plastic produce bags a week….eek! These would be AWESOME to pack with my grocery bags for my weekly shopping!

  • Vanessa F.

Hmmm. I do try to double up on items in each bag, but i still probably use at least 4-5 in a trip

  • Catherine

    Probably 5-6 a week!

  • MommaMary

I don’t have any of those bags, but I use approximately 7 per week of the plastic produce bags. I would love them

  • Nspardy

Unfortunately, between my boyfriend and I, we usually use up to 10 of those plastic bags per week. When i can, i try just not to bag my produce, but sometimes it gets hard when you’re buying items in bulk. I had never heard of this product before and would love to try them.

  • Anne

During the summer, I use only one or two produce bags per week because most of my produce comes from the farmers market, where I bring reusable bags. During the rest of the year, I probably use two or three produce bags per week. However, I do reuse them to hold bread (from my bread machine), muffins, and other baked goods.

  • Jeanne

I use approximately 10 bags a week, but my grocery store now uses recycled produce bags. I recycle those bags along with any other plastic bags when I enter the store (bins provided). That is when I remember to take them along. They do tend to accumulate into rather humongous piles before that happens.

  • Lindsay

I can honestly say I don’t use them with the majority of my fruits and veggies as I tend to just put them straight in the buggy– the workers at the grocery store don’t like it when I do it! I would say I use 1-2 per week!

  • Rachelle

At least four or five everytime I shop. Mesh bags are a great idea!

  • Liz N.

I use about 4 a week. These bags are so neat! Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Jillian

I’d sy we use about 2-4 each week.

  • Lisa

    Probably 4-5

  • Sarah Leimbach

Honestly, I try to NOT put my produce in a bag before putting it in my shopping bag. I also shop alot at the local market and often put produce in brown paper bags that I try and re use.

  • Jennifer Turner2008

We probably use 2-3 produce bags a week, depending on how much produce, of course…

  • Whitney

    I think 2 or 3 per week.

  • Amy

I try not to use them if I don’t really need one but that said I still probably use about 4-5 a week.

  • Elizabeth

    I think I use about 6…yikes!

  • Dee Parker

I would say on average 5. I reuse them though as bags for scooping kitty litter into. (If they have no holes!)

  • Anna

    Probably 5

  • Janet C

It IS embarassing to fess up. But, yes, I do use perhaps 2 per shopping visit. However, we always recycle them. I know, not the best environmental practice, but… These would be ideal to green-up further.

  • Hfarach

I pick up store produce once or twice a week This is a fabulous idea. I would store them in the car along with my reusable shopping bags. I wash them all once a month — pretty easy and I LOVE not having to store plastic bags under my sink!!

  • Athena

I rarely use plastic produce bags because where I do most of my produce shopping they don’t have them.

  • Pfosdick

I believe that I probably average 6-7 plastic bags a week. This type of bag would go along
way to reducing that and also looks to be one that would be easy for the checkout person to
    deal with.

  • Dianekay

We use about 4-5 week but we recycle them at the grocery store (they provide a container) or we use them for cat litter clean up.

  • Ingrid

Unfortunately about 5 bags a week ;-( these bags would be lovely to have instead.

  • Lindsey Vondenstein

I love the idea of these! We buy a lot of fresh fruits and veggies so we go through quite a few of those plastic bags. I would love to make that number zero.

  • Ashley

Honestly, probably about 3 a week, and I hate to, because I always save and reuse the normal grocery bags, but those little pastic ones are too thin and tear too easily. These are great!

  • sundae

I have one produce bag and they are so helpful! I would love to get some more. I probably use about 3 plastic bags a week so I need 3 more reusable bags!

  • Erin Locker

I try to buy local at our farmers market and bring my own bags, but I would guess that I still use around 3 per week, which can really add up over the course of the year.

  • donnab

I’m down to three or four for fruit that I can’t grow or buy locally. I need to get some of these bags!

  • Meganlynnjohnson

    We easily use 5-8 a week…

  • natasha

1-2 a week. I always reuse the bags to store fresh breads and bagels I bake weekly.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=26105837 Danielle McGackin

I would LOVE these bags! I hate the plastic produce bags, I can never open them and they rip easy depending on what u put in them, I usually use about 4 -6 per week.

  • Tiffany Michelle

Probably about four or five per week.

  • Amy

i think we average about 4 a week which is 4 too many!

  • Jodir

    I use probably 4-6/week

  • Msmelanieblair

Oh yikes…I’m guessing more than a dozen. I’m definitely not proud of that, why didn’t I think of getting bags like these before?! :)

  • June g.

Probably 5-7, I do use them to line my trash bins.

  • Christy

I try to use only one or two for small peppers. I’d like to make that zero!

  • Esherman10

I buy a produce basket from a coop group, so unless there’s a specific ingredient that I need and don’t have, I rarely use the produce bags.

  • Heather

I would estimate about 4…I try to just not bag most things, but you can’t do that with mushrooms or other small items!

  • MLB

I use perhaps an average of 2 per week. I would love these reusable bags.

  • Heather

Probably an average of 3. These reusable ones are awesome!

  • Elizabeth Smillie

we buy our produce in bulk from Sam’s Club, so don’t use very many! the average would be for a month, and be 3

  • Mackay Sara

I hate to admit I use about 5 a week!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=601131334 Lindsay Conant

Oh gosh… I think I use 3-5 per week. What a great idea, I’ve never considered reusable produce bags!

  • Megan

    Probably 5. Yikes!

  • Loretta

We probably use at least 6!

  • Jlpaulen

Gah, maybe 3 or 4? I try to buy produce without the bags when I can, but these would be super handy!

  • Charissa

I only use a few. I try not to get them.

  • Christina Madison

I would guess we use about 4 per week.

  • Krissy888

I buy a LOT of vegetables and fruits and most of the time they go in plastic bags (I guess I foolishly thought that they had to have it that way for the cashier
Anyway- these look like a much better option

  • Kat

I converted some old t-shirts into mesh bags last year and they have been working out great. Rarely do I end up forgetting to bring my bags with me, so I would say, maybe 1 every two months? If I was able to add these to the collection, I should always have some in my trunk ready to go!

  • Carol F.

I probably use 3-4 per week, depending on the season.

  • Katie M.

I would love these! Honestly, I could probably use 5 or 6 a week but hopefully less in the future once I start my own herb garden.

  • Nicole

On average I probably use 5-10 produce bags per week.

  • Camille H

Unfortunately I think I use more than I realize. We eat a great deal of produce. However, we reuse them for doggie clean up bags.

  • Caitlintreml

I probably use about 2 or less per week. Been trying hard not to!

  • Paula C.

I would say three or four. I have been getting my produce without the bags when possible.

  • tracy

    eek…. probably 10, and that’s 10 too many!

  • Annie D.

I use probably 4 a week. I never thought of something like this to take to the grocery store! How cool!

  • Heather

I would probably use about 3/week. I do most of my produce shopping at the farmers market and those plastic bags they put them in always seem counter intuitive. I am thinking 2 for vegies and 1 for fruit -Now I am rethinking it and maybe 4/ week -2 for veggies and 2 for fruit ( i just can’t resist cherries, nectarines, or apricots!

  • Sburens

Id use all 5 each week! Ive stopped getting bags and just put them in my reuable grocery bags, but I like that these are smaller.

  • archaeogrrrl

Personally, I just want to give a bunch of these to some Marines and see what they do with bags from Flip and Tumble. But then, I’m warped.

I’ve been trying to design a knitted produce bag, and I’ve done fine for the larger things, but I am still feeling my way to design something washable, squish-able, light and yet heavy enough to protect greens and stalks.

  • Alice

I use 4-5 per week. I would like to use less!

  • Jkgall2004

Unless they are totally gross i reuse mine anyway. These would be great! I use 5-6 each week.

  • Holly S.

Probably 5 or 6. I use reusable grocery bags, and I feel pretty stupid pulling off the plastic produce bags, but if I brought a load of loose produce up to the checkout, I’m sure the checker would kill me! LOL. Thanks for the giveaway! These are pretty cool.
    hstorm799@gmail.com

  • Erika

I would love these bags. I buy apples, oranges and pears almost every week! I reuse the plastic ones until they wear out, but these would be even better!

  • Kimberlee VanGorden

What a great idea! I use 3-4 produce bags a week. Whenever possible I avoid them, but there are just some things like grapes and beans that need to be put into a bag.

  • Katie

I’d guess I use about 4 or 5 plastic produce bags per week….eek!

  • Theresa H

We probably use 4 or 5 every week. These bags would help fix that problem pretty quickly!

  • kristin taylor

    I would say about 2 a week.

  • Sarah

I probably use about 3 a week, but I do try and reuse them.

  • Desiree

I probably use about 6 a week. I try to only use the plastic bags only when im buying multiples of a vegetable or fruit. If it is just 1 or 2 i usually just toss it in the cart.

  • Kaitlin

I don’t use many – 2-4 per week (which isn’t awful but is far from great). Often I just won’t put the produce in the bag (especially if I’m only getting one or 2 of a specific item).

  • Bks823

some weeks I use 5 or 6 and other weeks only 1 or 2.

  • Coby

I use way too many produce bags per week, easily 8 or 9…which feels silly when I’m stuffing them into my reusable grocery bags! If I’m only buying one or 2 items of produce, then I skip the bag, but I have 3 little boys, so I usually don’t just buy one or 2 of something :-)

  • nscheaffer

I probably use 5-6 a week! I would love to start using something a little friendlier to Mother Earth.

  • Breezi@NotYourAverageFairytale

We pack our kid’s lunches every day…. that equals LOTS of sandwich bags and baggies galore. I think we’d probably use like 6 a week. :)

  • Vanessa_adams

2-3 bags per week, only for the produce with skin we eat, ie apples

  • Noelle

Oooh Annie I use too many, I never considered the plastic being used with the produce bags!!! EEEk!! I was probably using 6-7/week, but I am definitely cutting that down!!

  • Reli82

Not very many, I don’t know if I would average one because where I do most of my produce shopping they don’t have the option, though it’s prepackaged then.

  • C.J.

We usually use 3 per week.

  • Ashley C Keating

I probably use 2 to 4 bags a week but this would help solve that! And it makes me think about what I can do about using plastic bags!

  • Kathy

I probably use 3 to 5 a week, but am trying to cut down. I do resuse them, however.

  • Kendra

I usually use 1-2 a week. I only use them if I’m buying a lot of little things (like mushrooms) that I want to avoid damaging, or leafy greens that collect a lot of water (like cilantro, parsley, radishes, etc).

  • Amy B

Oh! I buy so much produce and hate using the bags! I probably use at least 3-5 a week. This would be amazing.

  • Becca Schwartz

I use about 5 a week, depending on how much produce we need.

  • Pat

What a great idea!! I’ve never seen this product before and would use them for my produce. So much better for my veggies than the plastic ones at the store.

  • Mmspitz

I probably use 4-6 per week

  • Madonna

The majority of our grocery items are fresh produce. I would guess almost 10..eeek. In the summer though we do use reusable bags/boxes since we only go to the farms.

  • Anita

    I use probably 2-3 a week :)

  • Kswag

I use about 3 bags a week for things that get caught in the store water sprays. :) Try to avoid them for bananas, avocadoes, etc.

  • Amykolz

Sadly I think we use at least 5-7 of the plastic produce bags a week. We’ve been using reusable grocery bags for years: we’re long overdue in making the switch to reusable produce bags.

  • Brandimandeville

I’m really bad. I would say around 6 or so. And those ones I don’t reuse. They usually tear so easily that I just toss them and leave my produce by itself in the drawer when I get home.

  • Pat

I would use 4-5 per week. The plastic ones at the store are so thin, they usually tear before I get them home. This looks like a great product.

  • Rebecca Black

Oh my, I shudder to count. I’d say about 5 for our little family of 2. Great that we eat a good bit of produce…but the wastefulness! I need these reusable bags!

  • Rhea

Unfortunately a lot, probably 10-15. I REALLY need to work on not forgetting my reusable grocery bags at home…

  • Emily

I use about 2-4 a week. Typically I won’t put some produce in the bags unless there are multiple pieces (green beans, tomatoes, etc.)

  • Claudia

I probably use at least a half dozen (sometimes more, depending on what I’m doing for dinner throughout the week), but I do actually reuse them. If what was inside wasn’t shedding (like onions), wet (like broccoli that is under the sprayer) or have anything suspect about it, I just throw them back in my reusable grocery bags for next time I go to the store.

  • Courtney Wilson Johnson

I average about 3. I drive the cashiers crazy by putting more than one type of produce in a single bag and I put things like onions in the cart without a produce bag.

  • amanda

Probably at least ten a week. I have tried to remember and reuse them, but I can never seem to remember to bring them in from the car….

  • http://www.brittanycooks.com/ Brittany @ Brittany Cooks

Wow, I probably use about 5-6. Never really thought about that! Like others have said, I do try to not use bags when I’m buying one item, like bananas, pineapple, etc.

  • Phyllis

    About 2 a week

  • Sylvia Kuck

I probably use 3 per week, but getting better when I buy farmers market veggies!

  • Becky

We probably get about 10 news plastic bags a week and reuse those bags for diaper bags and trash bags.

  • Carolyn

We try not to use those plastic bags at all & just let our produce roll & flop around in the shopping cart. Sometimes it’s necessary for things like delicate lettuces, bloody meat, etc. I’d say we use about 4 plastic bags at the very most a week.

  • Krystin

I would love these. I’ve been thinking about trying to make some but I’m really not that good at sewing!

  • Ulrich Stephanie

2-3 a week at least. I do recycle them , but I love the idea if these bags!

  • Cassandra

We use probably five to eight per week. It sounds awful and we really do need to switch over to reusable ones. We use reusable bags for all of our other groceries though!

  • RErickson

Probably 3-4 when I shop but that is once or twice a month at a grocery store. I usually go to a local market and they don’t have plastic bags!

  • Allegretto3

I probably use 5 bags a week, but many get reused. I buy most produce at the local farmer’s market, so I’ll put a variety of things together in one bag. These mesh bags would be fantastic!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1627869149 Beth Pullen Cummings

It depends on who is doing the shopping – if it’s me, I only use a few. My husband, however, likes to bag EVERYTHING. So the answer for him is – too many!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1627869149 Beth Pullen Cummings

If it’s me, then only a few. If hubby is doing the shopping, then he likes to bag EVERYTHING! So the answer for him is – far too many!

  • Angela Tapy

These look amazing! I would love to try them. I don’t typically use the produce bags at the store unless something is wet, so I would say I only use 1-2 per week, but that is still too many!

  • Jenbispo

I use way too many plastic produce bags. Help me break the habit!!

  • Jill

I use about 3 per week. With the flip and tumble bags, I would use them more often instead of having to deciding on which produce is a must to put in a bag.

  • frances

we probably only use 1 or 2 a week. we tried saving them to reuse, but they are hard to wash and dry and i just felt they weren’t very hygienic. i like the idea someone else had about reusing them as doggie pick up bags, but they seem a bit thin for that (um, i have a big dog!). i’d love to just eliminate them altogether!

  • Fball

probably 1-3 a week. I try to not use produce bags, and buy fewer items more frequently. And I reuse them as often as I can.

  • http://baking4six.com/ Dianne@Baking4Six

I typically don’t put my produce in a bag… although some of it, is pre-pakaged (I shop Trader Joes). I use one a week – however, I’d really like to start heading to the farmer’s markets and these bags would come in quite handy!! Thanks, Annie

  • Sasipriya K

I use about 5-6 just to make easy during checkout. It all started when I moved to US. Back in India I never used the plastic bags to buy my produce. Thanks for this giveaway.

  • Michelle

These are awesome! I probably use about 10 of those little bags a week…

  • Deanna

I try not to use them at all, but there’s always two or three. I always bring my reusables, but I think the cashiers at the stores get annoyed at all the loose fruit I buy. Ha! Unfortunately, wet veggies are another story. Thanks for posting these bags; I’d never heard of them, but now they’re on my must-have list!

  • Mnancy1

I would use 4-6 in a week. I love them!

  • AndiW

what a great idea! I use approx 2-4 a week..

  • Michelle Breaux

I use maybe 2 per week. Often I will take the produce sans bag…but these would be fantastic for farmers market trips this summer!

  • http://thesocialeater.org/ Sarah

This is awesome! I don’t think I’ve seen these before.
I try to go without the plastic bags when I can, but I still probably use 2-5 on average each week.

  • Debbie M.

    at least 10-12 a week. that’s too many :(

  • mommyof3

probably 6, but I do reuse or recycle them as trash can liners, doggy diamond pick-up bags, trash bag for the van,

  • shelly

We use 5-8 per week. thanks for making me think about that!

  • Connie_briggs

I’m guessing that I use around 4 – 5 of those thin plastic bags. This is the first time I’ve seen these – great idea!

  • Jane

I try to reuse ours from previous weeks, but the bags still pile up. Probably 4 or 5 a week. This is a great alternative!

  • MonaLisa

I avoid the plastic bags like the plague. Though sometimes I do need one for loose potatoes, green beans or peas. I’ve always thought about getting theses. It would save me 1-2 plastic bags a week. The rest of my produce is always loose which does not amuse the cashier.

  • Renhair68

While I avoid using them if at all possible, there are still times that you have to put the produce in something, so I’ll have to say I use about 5 a week. These reusable bags are a great idea!

  • Hollys79

I probably use about 5 a week. Love this idea!

  • Morgan

We probably use about 5 on average per week.

  • Christinabaack23

About 5-7 each grocery trip – so maybe around 15/month??

  • Melissa

I use them about 2 times a week. I love the idea of these resusable bags, clever!

  • Heather Labbe

    I would say between 3-5 a week.

  • Mary Anna

We use bwtween 10-15 bags per week. The good news is that I re-use them!

  • Veronicabrownheim

Oh man, I do re-use those, but probably 3-5 a week.

  • Arussell

We buy lots of produce, so we probably use 10-15 per week. If it is a pepper or lemon, I won’t grab a bag, but I hate using them as well, even though we recycle. We use reusables for packing the groceries.

  • Julie Juice

I try not to use those bags, but when buying lettuce, you have to get a bag. I use only 1-2 a week, but put most of my produce loose in my re-usable grocery bags. These are a great idea!

  • AH

I try to skip the plastic produce bags, but sometimes it’s inevitable. UGH! I’m guessing I use about 5 per month on average, which ends up being at least 60 a year. Not good!

  • Heather

We probably use 4 to 5. Ugh!

  • kettfisch

Probably three a week during winter, and up to 5 during summer at various farmer’s markets.

  • Angela

I try to use as a little as possible but would say I use 3-4 a week.

  • Meredyth Leafman

OMG! I think I use about 30 a week. I just ordered a set to try!

  • Crystal B

weekly, I would say maybe 1 if that – I try to just not take them if I can? but I would love to use the reusable ones!! love the idea!

  • Southern Notions

Thank you for bringing these to my attention. I’m ordering today! :)

  • Jade Crawhorn

These bags are a great idea, I probably use 3-4 plastic produce bags a week. This would def help me cut back!

  • ashlee

I’d say we use 4-5 per week

  • Julie

I use at least three produce bags a week.

  • Erin

I’d say we use 5-8 each week. I would definitely use these cool bags. Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Wendy G

Wow! I love this idea! I try not to use them but I still use at least 4 a week probably.

  • Rachel

I’d say I use around 5 produce bags. These would be so great because I use reusable bags for everything else!

  • Tara

I was just talking about getting resuable produce bags to my hubby the other day. We hit the fruit market (local fruit and veggie store) every Saturday. On average, I use 10 plastic produce bags on each trip. That’s not counting the veggies I pick up mid week when we want to prep a new meal.

  • cluttercafe

    10 :(

  • http://girlgetsjob.wordpress.com/ Emily

I have been wanting some of these for a while! I would estimate that we use 5-6 plastic produce bags per week.

  • Debbie

I use about 5/week for bringing lunch to work as well as garbage bags.

  • Melissa McRae

Holy cow, I use about 8 per week! I don’t even want to think about how many that is per year (416! CRINGE!). I only use reuseable grocery bags, but it’s true…what’s the point if we are only filling them with plastic produce bags? I have started to think about this more lately…and you have brought me the solution! Thanks! :-D

  • RandiE

Our house uses about 4 to 6 plastic produce bags each week for normal shopping. These bags would be the perfect replacement! :)

  • kate C.

    Probably 4-5 a week.

  • Renae

I’d say I probably use 5-6 produce bags a week. Wow, that’s a lot whenn I think about it!

  • Lily

    I think I use around 5-7 bags.

  • Emdorphin

3 to 4 each week. Wowsers!

  • Jennie

We go through 8-10 a week. Luckily, our local grocery stores recycle them, but still…reusable ones would be divine!

  • Shannon Hickey

I try to use as few as possible. When I go to the grocery store alone, I just put the produce in the basket. When I go with my husband, he makes me use the bags and it’s usually at least 5.

  • BrendaB.

I use several plastic produce bags a week, and they go right in the trash …. just like the plastic grocery bags that some of the grocery stores carry. Sometimes they don’t even ask, they just sack your stuff in them!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Prairie-Cottage-Rose/1446990829 Prairie Cottage Rose

I’d say we use at least 4-5 per week, but try to ration them :)

  • Christine

I use 3 – 5 a week, but try to reuse them or bring them back to the store for recycling. I don’t use them if I’m buying single produce items. Thanks for posting about ways to be green in the kitchen!

  • Molly

I would use probably 4-6 per week! :)

  • JoVonn

    2-3/week

  • Robin

We use 4-6 per week – what a great way to cut down on waste with these!

  • Annie B

I’ve always wished I had something like this! I use about 3 a week and it always make me cringe when I grab one.

  • Chrissy W.

I would say that we use around 6 a week. It really depends on the week. I would love something like this.

  • Becki H

I would say at least 3 per week.

  • Amgramel

Anywhere from 5-10…yikes! These look great, though. I think I’ll buy them from amazon even if I don’t win :)

  • Kimoeth1

Unfortunately I use them a lot. Mostly because I want to protect my food from the conveyor belt I put my groceries on. If I would have to guess I usually use 3-4 every time I go to the grocery store. I would love to try these bags though.

  • Juliatmoore

I love the idea of these bags and would use at least three of them per trip to the store. I visit our local grocery store at least three times per week so I use on avg at least 10 pastic produce bags a week.

Would love to win these bags and would use them every time!

  • Sarabeth

We use 3-5 per week… I need to get some of these for sure!

  • Nana Natalie

I use at least 12-15 produce bags a week. The flip & tumble bags are a great idea.

  • Kdharvey

4-5 a week, although I try to repurpose them to transport my sneakers to/from the gym!

  • Alisha T.

We try not to use too many, but around 4-5 per week.

  • Maili

I use about 3-4 a week, from the grocery store. But I try to reuse them for other things around the house.

  • Carol

These bags sound great. My daughter is always trying to get me to reuse and recycle more and these would really help, and she would love them too.

  • Cupkatectr

I probably use *gasp* 6-8 depending on the menu! Yikes!

  • http://www.brighteyedbaker.com/ brighteyedbaker

We probably use less than one a week, but that’s because many of our groceries come pre-packaged. Counting those, probably about 5-6 a week, but when we go to the supermarket, these reusable ones would certainly come in handy!

  • Kate

I use probably 5 a week – would love to try the reusable ones! Happy earth day!

  • sydney

    On average, around 4

  • Kbundro

We buy lots of fruits and veggies, so we probably average 6-8 each week.

  • Allison Coe

I use about 4-6 a week. I try to bring loose veggies/fruits up to the registers if I can.

  • Mestebla

We buy a lot of produce… I probably use 6 or 7 a week. These would be great to have!

  • Jack’s Mom

I buy without bagging whenever possible, but still 5 or 6 a week!

  • Kathleen

I would say between 4 and 6. Happy Earth Day!

  • Urvi

    I would say about 3.

  • Megs

Safe to say that we go through about 8-12 bags a week! That’s a lot seeing as how we just moved from an area that was really hard to find good quality produce almost all year. Our new neighborhood looks like it has great Farmer’s Markets and we can’t wait for this year’s fruit and veggie bounty!! Happy Earth Day!

  • Megan

I easily use 5-6 a week, maybe more. Haven’t thought to look for reusable produce bags to go w/my regular bags. Great idea!

  • crystal

    sadly about 8.

  • Gretchen Mayr

I would have to guess at least 7-8 produce bags are used a week in our house…such a shame since I do use the reusable shopping bags all the time

  • Lauragoyer

10 easily, though I do reuse them once they come in my house or recycle them.

  • Shannon S. in VA

I would say 2 at most. I am very good at using my own bags but do not have one for produce like these. I usually just weigh the loose items and place in my bag. Depending on the item, I have to use a plastic produce bag and cringe each time! I would love to win these! Thanks for the chance!

  • Jenpleake

I use entirely TOO many of the plastic bags. Having reusable ones instead would really help me to cut back.

  • Lynn

These are awesome!!!! I almost always try to avoid getting the plastic bags when possible. I used to use about 10 a week, but now when I pick up things like a lemon, lime, onion, or sweet potatoes, I just pick up the produce on its own and avoid a plastic bag. I felt so bad wasting all of them! I really need these!!!

  • Lori Russo

I probably use about 10 per week

  • Tmlbean

I am guessing 4-5. I reuse them as garbage bags….

  • LaToni Burgett

On average? Wow, that’s a hard number to come up with. Depending on the week it could be anywhere from 4 to 8.

  • Nlskinner4

I think we use about 5 each week.

  • Lindsey S.

I think I use about 3-4 plastic bags each week, but these are such a great idea!
