My hope is to inspire you to be fearless in the kitchen, to try new things, to take the time to make things the homemade way and most importantly, to have fun doing it!

June {in an Instagram}

I’ve been at this blogging thing a while now and I feel very connected to my wonderful readers out there.  You are all awesome and kind and I love when you share your stories with me.  I thought it might be fun to share a post or two each month with a bit more of what our family has been up to.  And, since I’m addicted to Instagram, it’s an easy way to capture little snapshots of our daily life.  I do have a public Instagram profile for the blog (annieseats) in case you want to follow me there as well.  Without further ado, here’s our June in an Instagram!

1. My cat Zoe loves me.  She wants to cuddle whenever I sit down.
2. Margaritas on a Friday – pretty standard.
3. Our neighborhood pool is open and we are excited!
4. Went into Sur La Table for one thing and, well…
5. A lot of recipe development happened this month.  Yum!
6. Ben is now on summer break so occasionally he brings the kids downtown to have lunch with me at work.  I love those days!
7. I made a funfetti ice cream cake for a favorite friend’s birthday.  (See the finished product here.)
8. I loved working in the garden before the heat wave hit.  These were the last flowers I planted just before dusk one evening.
9. Sibling love.
10. Birthday boy = birthday waffles.
11. I took the day off of work for Andrew’s birthday and he chose the Children’s Museum.  Caroline and I in the Dinosphere having a grand time.
12. She was totally pooped afterward.
13. I tried my hand at DIY mason jar lanterns for Andrew’s birthday party and found they are very easy!  More on this soon.
14. The aftermath of Andrew’s party – s’mores at the fire pit.
15. Absolutely stunning clouds on Thursday morning.
16. Officially begin my last year of residency on Monday and got to move into a better cubicle (haha!)  Plastered kid pics outside it as usual.

Can’t wait to see what July brings!  Hopefully some rain!

Oh my goodness, Zoe looks exactly like my Cleo. Does Zoe jump up on your lap and butt your hand with her head in a demand to be petted? Does she covet the food dish? Does she “chatter” as though she’s talking to you? And finally, does she have an attitude?

  • http://fourandtwentyblackberries.blogspot.com/ Elizabeth

    I loved reading this!

  • annieseats

She is very demanding where pets are concerned :) She isn’t as excited about the food dish as our other cat, but she really loves yogurt (!) She will hold entire conversations with us when we talk to her, and she serenades us from the bottom of the stairs after we go to bed each night. And yes, she is very sassy :) Love it!

When I saw your birthday waffles, I had to stop and ask myself if they were : “Qwaffles!” My guy friends in college introduced our cafeteria to Qwaffles and they even served them at dinner one night. Waffles made with Cake Batter. Funfetti are my favorite. :) If you adapted this idea with your own creativity, I can only imagine how yummy they would be!

  • Jacqueline

Love this! You have the cutest life!

Yay to your last year in residency! I just finished yesterday. :-)

  • annieseats

    Congrats!

  • annieseats

Aw, fun! These were actually just our favorite waffle recipe (yeasted waffles) but I added the whipped cream and sprinkles for a birthday treat :)

  • Missy

Hi Annie. Thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures! I was wondering if you’d mind posting your margarita recipe please? I know in the past you have shared the recipes for flavored margaritas, but I’d like to make a traditional one.

  • Andrea Goodwin

The picture of your two kids is perfect. So adorable!

  • Ruchita

What a fun post. Thanks for sharing! Zoe is so cute. She looks like my kitty, Nina. She was a stray we found outside back in May. She was barely 5 lbs and we couldn’t stand to leave her on her own, so we catnapped her. :-) Nina is so sweet and playful and a great addition to the family.

  • Lynette Wilhelm

Hi Annie! Thanks for sharing! Do you have a link for the funfetti ice cream cake recipe you used? Thank you!

  • Kelsey

That looks like one fantastic month!

  • Angela

Happy last year of residency! That cake turned out beautifully. We’re big on funfetti cakes here, too. Your kids are adorable. We’re on the fence about getting a cat. Most days, I really want one but the responsibility with four kids makes me feel a tad overwhelmed. Then I laugh. What does a cat need but cuddling and food? And the internal debate rages on. :)

If I lived in Indiana, I would totally babysit your kids for free. Those pictures are just SO adorable!

  • Anne

I love Caroline’s little bathing cap! So adorable!

  • Leah

I loved reading this post! Congratulations on starting your last year of residency. Do you plan on sharing a tutorial for your funfetti ice cream cake?

  • Alexa

Picture #9 is so cute. You will treasure it always! Thanks for sharing.

Love this new feature to your blog! I was just visited Indianapolis for the first time today to see a friend race in the paralympic trials. It seems like a cute city- we walked down to the canal and ate downtown. Congrats on starting your last year of residency!

  • annieseats

Possibly but I want to perfect it and I wasn’t totally happy with that version :)

  • annieseats

Oh yeah, cats are such a low maintenance pet. They don’t require much attention, even the needy ones are easy. I love them :)

  • annieseats

It’s likely a future post, but far in the future because I need to perfect it and wasn’t totally happy with that particular version.

  • annieseats

We just use a 3:2:1 ratio with lime juice, tequila, triple sec (or other orange liqueur). Either use sweetened lime juice or sweeten to taste with simple syrup.

  • Leah

What a fun bunch of pictures! Your kids are so cute- I love Caroline’s swim cap (is it possibly from Janie and Jack? I saw similar ones there recently). Thanks for sharing!

  • Angela

Great pictures! The picture of the siblings captures the feeling perfectly. I have a boy Andrew’s age and a girl Caroline’s age and they love each other just as much as I can tell by the picture that your little ones do. Happy Summer!

  • Jaime

I love instagram!! Sibling love is my favorite.

  • annieseats

Um yes, I might have a tiny problem with Janie and Jack…. ;)

  • Carolyn

Great feature!! I love how instagram capture daily life in such a fun way!!!

  • Coby

I love the sibling love pic. Just adorable!

  • Amelia Fazio

    How’s you make the collage??

  • pat1645

  • Tracylynn120

I don’t know how you do it all but you do it well. I love your joy for food and family thank you so much for the many recipes and smiles. Your pictures are wonderful….

  • http://indigoscones.blogspot.com/ Indigo Scones (Ellen)

Your life is such a lovely one!
    Aaand you have amazing sunglasses.

  • Dawn

Wonderful pictures! Would you possibly consider posting your average weekday/weekend itinerary? I am dying to know how you balance everything in your life (work, kids, meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, baking, cleaning the kitchen after baking, eating three meals a day, exercising, feeding the kids, photography, blogging, sleeping [do you sleep??], cuddling the kitty, seeing friends, planning parties)…it’s amazing!!!

  • annieseats

Haha! Thanks, I love them :)

  • annieseats

It’s not really something I could do because every week and weekend is totally different and varies hugely on what rotation I am on at work, whether or not I’m on call, what outside projects I’m working on, etc. etc. I just make tons of lists and work hard to get it all done!

I also love posting pictures on instagram. Will follow you there to see more fantastic photos.
PS. your baby look so adorable.

  • Anna

Congrats on your last year of residency! I love seeing people who are going for it in every area of life. I’m sure there’s plenty of mess behind the highlights, but getting to share it with great friends and family makes the messes less bothersome. :) Well done!

  • KellyB

Sibling love… that’s my favorite. Reminds me of 2 years ago when my kiddos were around the same age. Oh where does time go? Love your blog and you have a lovely little family!~Kelly in Pa.

  • Jreese4peace

So fun! Thank you for sharing!

Ooooh, even better. We’ve been on a homemade pancake kick – but we may have to venture into waffle recipes soon.
